We will be in Charleston SC Dec.30- Jan.4, staying at Oak Plantation. Any suggestions of not to miss things to see and places to eat while there? Will there be "holiday" goings on at that time?
Thanks,

I believe the Christmas lights at the James Island County Park run through Jan.15 or so. Definitely worth seeing if you have never been. If you go to Folly Beach there is a great little restaurant named Rita's. Good time of the year for any of the restaurants because the majority of tourists haven't arrived yet.

If you are into history there is plenty to see. What are your interests?

Take a stroll on The Battery, visit Ft. Moultrie, Ft. Sumter, the Market downtown (can't remember the name) and tour a few of the old houses downtown. I love Charleston. One of my very favorite American cities...

Last year, we were there about the same time that you'll be there and even though we've been there 6 or 7 times, you never can get enough. We finally took a bus tour though and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our driver was so memorable, I still remember his name. Randy Lee Hill! What a great guide. There are numerous tours to take and you may want to go to the tourist center to see some of the tours you can take. We walked around the area near the market and had lunch at a place called "Sticky Fingers". I really did not think I much cared for ribs, but the couple sitting next to us recommended them and wow, they were fabulous.
You may want to ride out to Sullivan's Island too. Lots of places nearby to eat. Years ago we loved Shem Creek Bar & Grill (I think) in Mt. Pleasant. It is right on the ICW and the oysters were delicious. Enjoy your trip!

We stayed at Oak Plantation Last year. Nice Park. Only item is making left turn out of park on to highway. Don't miss Patriot's park and the aircraft carrier, Yorktown. Also Magnolia garden and Plantation;we took the trolley tour and then went back to see the places were most interseted in. The Fort Sumpter trip is good also.

Have fun and enjoy this great city,

Oak Plantation is nice...ask for sites up front if you want a clear shot for sat. Aw Shucks or Hymans downtown for GREAT seafood...fried, forget the yuppie stuff while you're there.

Go over to Shem Creek and eat at the little restaurant/tavern on the water on the north side. Can't recall the name, but the fried oysters are great and the potato (not sure what to call them) slices with the seasoning spinkled on are wonderful. A cold beer makes the whole thing complete.

I had lunch at RB's at Shem Creek and really enjoyed the Mahi sandwich!
