I don't know how to do this. Can anyone help? Never seemed to have a problem before this week. I sent some photos to two friends, one of whom got them ok and the other said they were so big that he almost could not see them. Thanks for any help.

At least three ways to do this:
  • Set your camera to take the pics in low resolution (640 x 480 is good)
  • Resize your image in your photo editing software. Most have this capability. (Again 640 x 480 is good)
  • My solution is to use Yahoo mail which automatically resizes them when they are attached
I'm sure there are more but these all work for me.

The easiest method I know of is to use Windows E-Mail sending program. Right click on the photo, select Send To, Mail Recipient, then medium or small size.

Another method is to click and open in Windows Photo Gallery, then E-Mail, and same as above.

If you have Adobe, you can open the photo, then save and select size and other options, same to another file name, and then send. I'm sure some other photo processing programs have similar options.

use Faststone image resizer..... go to cnet.com and download it and it is freware . It is a great too use it automatically resizes your pictures. Do not change the resolution on your camera. A lower resolution will give you grainy pictures .....

I use PhotoResize, its freeware and you just drag the picture file to the icon and it automatically resizes it to what ever resolution you want, re-names it with the same filename plus the new resolution in the same directory. Its really slick as snot on a brass doorknob.

The freeware Shrink Pic will automatically reduce the size of photos when you send them by email. It works in the background, so doesn't require any intervention on your part. Just attach photo(s) to your email as usual, and if the size is too large, ShrinkPic will make a copy of the original photo, reduce them to a preset size, and attach it to your email.

I would suggest to not set your camera to take 640 x 480. Always take pictures in the highest resoluation your camera can take. That way if you have that once in a lifetime shot you want to have enlarged there is no problem doing it. There are many free programs that will let you resize you photos for emailing.
