I'm the guy how started a post on this a week or so ago. I have a Verizon air card with unlimited usage. Based on what I'm getting on my laptop, yes it is slower but not much.
My problem is I do not have a USB card and require an adapter. Bought one on ebay and waiting for delivery. When I ask Verizon about a new card, the answer was yes but it would involve a new contract and a card with a 5 gig limit.

I just installed a Verizon Aircard in a Cradlepoint MBR1000 router for my father-in-law. Now he has simultaneous Internet from his desktop, laptop, and smartphone. He calls it a miracle!

Just recently went with a new wireless provider for air card called "Cricket". No contracts, $40.00 per month, USB, for either laptop or desktop. Not as much coverage area as the big two (Verizon or ATT), but I'm satisfied so far AND I LOVE NOT BEING TIED TO A CONTRACT.

do you have dsl or cable, the 'router' maintance pages can show you your monthly useage, if your not doing 5gig of usage with a 'hard line', you are unlikely to do so with an aircard/usb 'cell modem', if you are into gaming and online video, then you might run into problems, 'I T' people already know what they are using,
the avg user email & websurfing forums etc.. will not even come close to 5gig
i'm a heavy user, many days i'm on the laptop all day, my avg is about 3gig, i only get into trouble when i do lots up dates or software downloads
I stay away from video sites like HULU ( network TV shows ) or 'shoot em up' war gaming etc. and NO netflix on line movies..
Options, always have options, and the journey goes much smoother

I use a VZ USB air card in a wireless router. Old desk top conn. by Ethernet cable and 2 lap tops by wireless in different rooms of house.
I take the router with on trips so DW and I can both use our lap tops same time on the road.
We are lucky here to have EVDO. So system runs pretty fast. Down loading pictures or videos takes a little longer at times.

Have had Vz service for over 2 years and have never gone over the 5gb limit just using it for Internet service, email, maintaining 2 web sites, 3 VoIP telephone service lines 24 hours a day, and even downloading a few songs.
I use a Cradlepoint router going to a 22 port switch that lets my 2 desktop computers and laptop be online at the same time.
I second, or is it 3rd by now, calling the 3g store. Speak to Alex and you get straight talk about the best options for you.

Shoot, I can exceed the 5 gig limit on my home PC in just a day or two.
Do not even consider an aircard if you are a YouTube fanatic or like to stream movies. You would be in for a real shock when you got your first Verizon/AT&T bill. The charges for going over the 5 gig limit can be REAL HIGH!

For those of you that think you have unlimited, I would suggest careful reading of your agreement. I don't think there is one now that doesn't have a 5GB limit. That is a lot of download activity and under even normal to heavy use will still be plenty. But if you decide to try downloading movies as are now offered from Netflix and Blockbuster I suspect you had better keep a close eye on usage because they really nail you with over use charges.

I do have an unlimited account that I've had for many years now. My account is "grandfathered" in and AT&T told me not to let it go since there is no upper end quota.
