News, GPS tagging for children on Oasis of the Seas.

A tagging system for three to 11-year-olds has been introduced on board the world's largest cruise liner.

Ships have become so big that cruise lines are encouraging parents to use GPS systems to keep track of their children.

Royal Caribbean International has introduced tagging system for three to 11-year-olds in a move that coincides with the launch this week of Oasis of the Seas, the world's largest cruise ship. Using an electronic device built into the wristbands that all children on the ship must wear, the system enables parents to locate their offspring wherever they are among the ship's 16 decks.

Are they waterproof?

Maybe it's a good idea for resturants too.

If I ever go on that ship I'll have to get one of those GPS things for my wife. She's been lost on much smaller ships than this one.

Turns out, Royal Caribbean may have shot itself in the foot with the Oasis of the Seas. It is soooooooo huge, it cannot dock in most of the places one would normally go on a cruise ship. It is planned to sail out of Ft. Lauderdale, FL into the Caribbean but cannot dock at most of the places the ships usually go. They will stop at Labadee ("private island", aka Rip-Off Beach) and one other place.

Most days at sea.

When is big too big? I think we now know!

I first saw a picture of that floating city on a Grand Cayman forum I visit and they were all happy that it can't go there. Luckily (since we spend the winter around Tampa,) it can't fit under the Sunshine Skyway to dock here.
That isn't a ship - it's an eyesore. There was a very unflattering shot in our local paper a few weeks ago and it almost looks square. Way too big.

I can't possibly believe they didn't know that in advance and plan for it. At the very least the ship can anchor and passengers can be ferried back and forth. That's what cruise ships do in many ports in Hawaii and one I was in in Cabo San Lucas did the same.

Wife and I were preparing to disembark our ship when the Oasis past our ship's bow coming into port. It looked big and ugly when it was offshore waiting to come into port and bigger and uglier when it past by us. JMO though.

No big deal about not docking in a port to let passengers off for shopping or excursions since it is done so much today anyway.

What is her draft and what about broaching under a broadside rogue wave?
IE; Poseidon.
Found the Draft to be 31 FT and an Air draft of 236 Ft. WOW.
