I have an idea...maybe he can just add 2 more brake lights and splice them into the existing wires. Then he would have 4 brake, running and turn lights on rear of trailer. YEP that would be GREAT!

That would be the easiest and probably the most effective.

Two relays can be wire to make it act right. Relay from one TL connects hot, relay from other connects ground.
EDIT: As pointed out below this won't work.

if you did it that way, wouldn't the turn signal blinking off turn the brake light off also?

I have used one of the flashing brake lights for years on my motorcycle and consider them to be a great safety device especially on a bike... Mine was made by Chris Electronics whom I believe are now out of business but they are still available from other companies...
I don't believe they are really legal as they are a flashing red red light but that said, I have never been stopped on the bike regarding it...
If your going to use one try motorcycle shops like "Cycle Gadgets", Wing Stuff, and Niehaus Cycle in Litchfield, IL - they should list them in their adds...
If you have a rear window on your rig, you might consider just installing it there rather than cut holes and have to fish wires down the rear wall...

Call me silly, but I fear someone running into the rear of my TT. When some one tailgates the person behind the tailgater can’t see that I’m stopping or slowing down, so I want to install a HIGH, BRIGHT, center brake light. It has to be a flush mount because I don’t want to cut a big hole in the tt other than the hole for the wire. I do remember one that fit on a motorcycle… It flashed a few times an then went steady on and it was very bright. Now, I know I don’t want to blind anyone BUT give me some ideas and I’ll decide if it’s too bright or not bright enough. As for the flashing … I’ll worry about the legalities (sp) of that too.
So any ideas???

In the auto industry these devices are called Center High Mounted Stop Light (CHMSL, pronounced chim-sel). I think you want "surface mount" which can be mounted on top of a flat surface. A "flush mount" light requires a hole cut in the body so that it sits flush to the body.
I think this light bar does what you want. The left side will blink when you have your left turn signal on and the right side blinks for the right turn signal. The whole thing lights up when you hit the brakes. It even comes in different lengths all the way up to 60" long!
Once you get it you have to decide how high to mount it. I personally think the CHMSL's on many vehicles are too high, you want them at the driver's height. Of course the driver of a Corvette is sitting lower than the driver of a semi. I think I would probably mount it at the height of someone driving a pickup or SUV since those are very common and would do more damage than a low, small car.

Yep you're right ... guess I didn't think it that on through to well.

I just bet the stock brake lights are visible to the car behind the car behind you. The trailer lights are higher than automobile stop lights and wider also. Check it out before you go to the trouble and expense of installing one. Unless you are just looking for something to do, if so go for it. Good luck.

FYI, most after market HMSLs are wired so that they work just like the factory installed lights. I have never had to install one in one of my vehicles but when they first came out there were a lot of them on the market. In CA you may have red lights that flash to the rear of a vehicle but not foreward. I think this is pretty universal, otherwise emergency flashers would have to be amber or clear.

skipnchar wrote: Seems to me that with two large tail light/break lights already there if they can't tell you're stopping without being able to see you then there is probably no hope for them. No way you can drive YOUR vehicle and theirs also.
Have to agree with Skip on this one. No amount of defensive driving on your part and no number of bright lights on your TT will stop someone from hitting you if they're intent on not paying attention to that huge box in front of them. Just keep the pets and kids out of the TT so when someone does hit it the important things in life are safe.
