We have a steel crate for our 2 cockers.....they do fine in it....we are taking a Thanksgiving trip and bought a nylon fold up ones but one of the dogs tries to chew thru the zipper...I sprayed some stuff that is supposed to stop dogs from chewing things but it does not work...I put them in it the other night and they turned it over....Now I don't know what we are going to do on our trip...

I bought one thought it was really great to take on vacation to the in laws house. First night while sleeping the dog rolled it over several times, thought it was funny and did not think anything of it. Next day we all went to do something and when we got back dog met us at the door. He chewed through the thing and it went in the trash. Have not bought another and will not. I would either use the metal crate or go buy a plastic one. Or just do not put them in a crate.

We have the collapsable metal ones...no issues there. They are pretty small when folded up.

We have a fold up canvas crate for Charlie in the motorhome. The only time we ever use it is if were gone for a while. He thinks it's a treat to be inside the crate. I knew Charlie wouldn't have a problem with the canvas crate because he's not a chewer or a scratcher. If he's locked up in a bedroom he'll sit by the door and just wait. I wish he would bark and let us know where he is. One time he was inside the rv in the backyard for two hours and not a bark out of him. Now If a dog walked by the rv it would be a different story. LOL ..... We're going to get a canvas crate for Katie and I hope she doesn't destroy it. My husband refuses to buy the wire or plastic crate because he says he has no room for it in the motorhome.

Our crate drained English Cockers figured out how to open the zipper. We only use the metal/collapsible ones now.

I guess we've been lucky. We've had a canvas/colapsable crate for a few years now. Our two terriers sleep in it at night, and are left in it should we have to leave for a while and can't take them with us. We've had no issues with it and it fits nicely under the sofa when folded up. Given any new toy they'll have that chewed and torn apart in a nanosecond, but they've not bothered the crate.

I use soft crates extensively, but my adult dogs don't chew. The puppy uses a wire foldup crate because you know what they say about an ounce of prevention. If yours does, your choices are the fold-up wire mesh (different from the steel floor crate described), or airline-style crates. The fold-ups knock down to about 2 inches thick and stow under sofas, beds, etc. when not in use. The airline style don't fold down, but are lighter. Both can be easily purchased at any big box retailer or your local feed store.

When Jimmy was a tyke, we had a nylon crate for the MH - wedged it between the seat back and the dinette table for security. Since he LIKES his crates (and we generally tire them out before we leave) - he didn't try to escape. Now that he's a grownup, his nylon crate lives in my office and serves as his "sleeping cave"

Hi,

We bought a heavy duty plastic crate that folds down for easy storage. It has very strong latches on the door. Walmart had it in several sizes. The size we bought cost about $50.00. It is really easy to setup and take down. I like it because it is big enough for the dog to stand up and turn around or just sit up in.

We bought it for our dog but when the crate door is left open the cat loves to sleep in it.

Good luck
