I'm almost an RV'er!!!

Last week I picked up my 8.5x24 Cargo Trailer in Douglas, GA, went to Panama City, FL to visit family and brought her home over Friday and Saturday (670 mi). Plans are to start converting to a Toy Hauler/Travel Trailer/Camper.

Thanks to spending time a this site, I was able to make informed decisions on what I wanted (and did not want) on the basic trailer.

First day travels to PC, I learned real quick that my cheapo brake controller was an accident waiting to happen. Next day I located an Prodigy Proportional Controller at RV Connections and installed it myself. What a difference!!! Again, because of rv.net I knew exactly what to get.

Thanks to the considerate (especially the truckers) drivers who allowed me to make lane changes after I signaled.

For the guy in the green sports car in Nashville, TN who communicated via the middle digit, I hope you had a good day. Apparantly, 5 lanes on slow traffic day (Sat) was not enought. I was going 50-52 mph.

Love's Truck Stops on I-65 became my preferred stops as I could count on enough room at the pumps. Wish they had gas on one of the pull-thru pumps that semi's use.

Silly me did not think to ask what was Love's policy on overnighting.

Does anyone know? One of the Love's I stopped at in Alabama had a large lot on the Trucker's side.

Thanks in advance-Fred

I agree Love's is the place to buy fuel. We have stayed overnight at one in Albuerque.

When traveling we have stopped, and overnighted if needed, at the Love's truck stops on I-71 (exit 55) in Warsaw, KY, I-65 (exit 116) in Shepherdsville, KY and I-94 (exit #112) in Marshall, MI...BTW the Shepherdsville and Marshall locations have RV dumps...

This is good news- What was the procedure for overnighting at Love's? Ask permission? Sign Waivers? Could one call a specific Love's and ask in advance (For trip pre-planning)? I need to check Love's website.

The sewer dump info is good-to-know also.

What about filling fresh water tanks, mainly for showers and flushing commodes?

I've started a notebook - noting pertinant info. as now it behooves me to think and plan fueling, rest and over-nights stops.

Generally Loves, Flying-J, TA and other truck stops with big lots do not mind overnighters.. HOWEVER.... Some cities/counties/states have responded to the habit of some RVers parking in a Wall-mart overnight by passing "No overnight parking" laws.. Frankly I think poorly of these communities... but they do exist.

NOTE: where this happens PLEASE DO NOT BLAME THE STORE.

Who should you blame? Well, the local Campground Owner's assoication.. Good Sam's, Coast 2 Coast. And the like.. They lobby for these laws cause every night you spend in a parking lot you are not paying them campground fees.

That said.... There are a few decent reasons for limiting parking.. But I'd limit to "one night" if I were writing the laws. That way if you are tired, and thus dangerous.. You can park for the night.

shootandfish1 - I am keeping a notebook in the RV and note when I fill up, location, mileage, how much, etc. This way I can see how much it costs or how far I can get on so many gallons. It makes it easier for me to plan trips. I also note where we stopped for the night, whether we want to stop here again, etc. I have too many things to think about and if it is written down, I know I won't use the wrong figures for budgetting the trips.

I agree, I have learned a lot from this site too.

Yeah - Picasa is easy. And you can sinc right to your web album from your album in the computer. You have to open an account on Google and download the Picasa software....

If you have any problems PM me - I want to make it easy for you to post pictures!!!
