I was the School Safety Monitor in 7th and 8th grade school, and we stopped traffic while other kids crossed the street when school let out at night. I started working at a Police Station when I was 15 as a Police Explorer Scout, riding along and helping at the Police Station. When I was 17 I was sworn in as my City's first Police Cadet. When I was 20 I was sent to the Police academy and was a LEO of 30 years before retiring 5 years ago. So in some form or another I worked in Law Enforcement for most of my 55 years. Yikes!

Wouldn't have changed a single thing, I loved every moment of every day..helped countless people, changed hundreds of lives, brought 3 babies (not my own..I let a Doctor do that!) into the world with my own hands...2 in the back seat of my Police car! I held dying people in my arms, comforted families, gave people the worse possible, most dreaded news, arrested many, many bad guys, mentored many more good guys, gave back to the community, cried with anguished families, laughed at the human drama and in the end, I was just another player on the big stage of life!

On the fun side I got to drive really, really fast with my red lights and siren on!

This is our 7th new Jayco in 30 years! Loved 'em all!

After almost 40 years in Emergency Medical Services, I will be retiring next year, probably in the fall, after using up vacation and other accumulated time. Then?? I will do what a former co-workers said when he completed his last night shift. "I will go to bed every night and not in during the day"

We cant wait.

Merrykalia,, June 1 2008 was my first day of retirement.31 years as a Deputy Sheriff, with a total of 34 years as a LEO plus 2 years USMC, Life is good now and for the life of me I cannot figure out how I managed to fit work into my busy schedule. Years ago the Sheriff Department had Chevy Nova's, they were fast but no room, when I retired we had Crown Vic's and the Tahoe, It will be interesting to see the new cruisers in action. Bill

Just retired this June after 24.75 years as a LEO. Was eligible this October but the dept offered an early out in order to avoid layoffs. 24 of us left. Our dept is now down to about 125 sworn. Notice my signature.
