Ok...so I'm looking for some feedback here. We have a 2009 KZ Spree. A few weeks ago, we got to the campground and it was pouring rain. So I got the camper leveled, unhooked, and stable. Went inside and opened up the slide. I then noticed a lot of water on the carpet under the slide (the part that allows the slide to move easily). There was also water on the linoleum...so I cleaned it up best I could with towels. I watched to see if there was anymore water and there wasn't for the rest of the weekend. However, now we have a smell in our camper that smells almost like urine! We put our camper away last week (in our drive way) and my wife shampooed the carpet...however, there still seems to be a smell. I'm not sure how the water got there...I think that with the rain, when I started the put the slide out that water may have gotten in at that point...and I'm not sure what the smell might be. wife thinks it could be something dead....any suggestions on how to get the smell out as well as what it could be?

Thanks,

If you drove in the rain to get there your slide is probably leaking at the bottom. The tires throw up a lot of water and if the bottom seal is not working the water will get into the RV at the slide. Happened to us the first time we drove in a very heavy rain and the dealer said the bottom seal was not touching the slide, so they changed the seal and so far so good.

Check to see if there are wet areas under the carpet, the sub floor stays wet a lot longer than the carpet, and will stay that way until the carpet is pulled up, and the subfloor dried. You probably have mold, spray with a mildewcide and keep air circulating for a while, treatment for mold and getting it dried out should take care of your problem. Of course, find out the source so it doesn't happen again!

Buy one of those Moisture Rid things. They work good. Sometimes having an open container of coffee will help. Mostly you need to get rid of any moisture or mildew and circulate air to remove the smell over time.

Get your hands on a GOOD Ozone generator. These things are amazing and will take the smell out of anything.

Not knowing how bad the leak or where it originated from, I had a leak that had water pooling beneath the floor, what a mess. I had to cut open the underside of my trailer and get warm air circulating between the floor joist. My leak had saturated the insulation under the floor and it was holding the water against the wood. Hope your leak was minor and you don't have a moldy mess growing under your floors. Best of luck my friend. I can send you pictures how to open the bottom and reseal it if you need. You can private message me any time. Hans

I'd guess that you were towing in a rain storm without installing the slide locks. they usually do a great job of SEALING a slide room against rain getting in. Good luck / skip

I just had the same problem with wet carpet alone the slide. As another said what his problem was - same with mine. The slide was not sealing above the wheels when closed because the rail that was to press against the rubber weather strip on the trailer side was not touching for half of the way. This allowed rain water to be blown into the trailer by the wheels. An ajustment on one end of the slide took care of the problem.

Yep I had the same problem with our trailer. the rain water was blowing up through the bottom of the slide. soaked the carpet with the same urine smell you have. leave the slide out and put a fan on the affected area to dry it. the smell wil go away after the moisture in the carpet is gone.

I also fixed the problem by screwing some sheetmetal along the bottom of the frame just under the slide seal. it protrudes just enough past the seal sa as not to interfer with the slide operation. no more water leakage problems when towing in the rain. why they didn`t do this from the factory is beyond me. the seal is just barely good enough to keep dust out let alone water under pressure.
