Hi All,

Posted back in the summer on some issues I had with my Kwikee steps. Well the motor assembly just went bad. The plastic housing that holds the motor assembly to the screw drive is cracked.

Looking at the part number it is Kwikee "Motor and Screw 214" kit P/N 1101428

I have read somewhere that this is a standard Ford window motor kit. Can anyone confirm this? I have found this part online for 70 bucks so not sure if a car window kit would save much if any.

Any thoughts or advice?

Found this by doing some searching:

Off to Autozone tonight to get a replacement motor assembly. Will post up results tomorrow.

This is the motor he has. http://www.amequipment.com/06_window_lift_motors.html
He don't have the one that fits a ford car.
You pepole need to under stand that there was at least 5 different
power window motors Kwikee use over the last 15 years.

Rad, sorry but you are incorrect. There may have been 5 different motors used by Kwikee, but the one that fit and replaced mine was a ford replacement part that fit 1995-2001 Ford Taurus.

I simply took it to Autozone, they were able to match it up with the a Ford replacement and it was an exact swap. Cost $45 to replace the motor and was a 15 minute procedure.

My suggestion is that if someone attempts to do this, remove the old part, take it to an auto parts store and have them match it up.

For once a relatively easy and simple fix to a problem that can cost people a lot of money if having a dealer repair it.

I just went by this part in your post Looking at the part number it is Kwikee "Motor and Screw 214" kit P/N 1101428

The 214 tells me it is a AM Equipment motor. The one that fits the ford car is a different part number.

There are also Ford gear kits if you're fortunate to have a Ford-type motor and all that's failed is the nylon gear.

Mine uses a '91 Town Car LF window motor. I have 3 steps on mine. I would warn to be very careful when workiing on this. The motor puts out a lot of torque and can very easily remove or break fingers or things that are in it's way.

I would second being careful to all that are going to work on their own steps. The are a natural guillotine and could cause some serious issues / injuries if not careful!

I also found out from Autozone that these motors are often used in different manufacturers cars. The part I got is made by Doorman and is supposedly a replacement on Ford and some GM type cars.

Bottom line for me was it fit, and only cost $45 which was way less than half the cost of the Kwikee part.
