Not sure if this is the right forum to ask, so if it's not then I apologize.

Was wondering if anyone has bought and used any of the steel fire rings that connect for use and detach and lay flat for storage? Trying to find a manufacture that makes a good, heavy duty one that will stand up to a lot of use in harsh conditions.

Thought about using a dryer drum but don't feel like stowing it in the back of my rig.

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks much.

I havn't see one that fold up yet other than a black square cube looking thing, I use a burn barrel ( washer tub ) 18" off the ground, you being from Calif know the fire hazards we must face, so I wont go into it with you, I have put mine up and use the one camping world sells the one that has a red lid it also has a large flame too, and it is approved by the rangers and most state parks because no sparks emit from it, the truble with the onec that are close to the ground is heat transfer from the burner to the ground.

We got one similar to this one (click here). Except it does not fold up and did not come with a bag. We've had for 3 years now and used for for a lot of fires. We always clean out the ashes and rinse it down. It's been sitting outside under the cover though for a few weeks. The bottom (inside the bowl)is beginning to rust up a little. To cure that problem, I'll just pour a bit of cooking oil in the bottom and brush it around. I also do this with our outside Smoker.

I use a square one on occasion http://www.pit2go.com if I'm not mistaken (Will check and edit if needed)

While I don't like it as well as I do a real fire ring, it does have some advantages. And it lays flat in storage.

We use Campfire In A Can when parks don't have fire rings. It's small (about the size of an average bucket when closed), self-contained, and very easy to transport. Cheap too. Not fancy but it sure works great.
