An FAQ link for you from the company that manufactures both Filon & Gelcoat panels for the RV industry:

This should answer your questions with authoritative info.

I've had both. The gel coat is beautiful, and long lasting, but any defect shows up right away because of how glossy it is. I take good care of mine and so not a real problem. I would still go for the gel coat over fiberglass if had to do it again.

I have had both. Non-coated fiberglass (Filon) started turning ugly after a few years. The surface oxidized away, exposing more of the fiber matrix, which then attracted and held dirt and yellowed. Gelcoat stayed looking good for much longer. However, there are several grades of Filon. I believe that some have a coating that lasts longer.

I don't think I would go back to filon. I love the shine on our gelcoat.

I do not have high gloss gel coat and after 41 months the regular Gel coat looks great. If I had it to do over again I would go with the High Gloss for the looks but at the time there was some question about the weight which later proved to be false.

Jelcoat is easier to keep clean and waxed. Looks better longer. We have had both and prefer jelcoat.
