Planning 6 wk trip next summer to Canadian Maritimes. Would like to spend a few days 'in' Maine, i.e. not on coast either coming or going. Was thinking about Baxter SP but I think our rig may be too big and the web site says they don't allow pets.
Is anyone familiar with Hidden Springs Campground in Millinocket or have other campground recommendations for that area? This would put us close to the park for a couple days of exploration.
I was looking at the Moosehead Lake area too, but a bit more out of the way given the amount of travelling we'll be doing. However, would appreciate any feedback.
We enjoy day hikes, wildlife watching, etc.

We stayed at Moosehead Famly campground in Greenville Maine-Moosehead Lake area. Water/electric...dump station. Where was another one Casey's. Long dirt driveway and electric was only during certain hours. The campground was right on the lake, but we found the drive on the dirt road long, and wanted to have electric full time, so did not stay there. We saw 6 moose on our travels. Took a Moose Safari (canoe)to some of the area bogs and smaller lakes. Beautiful area.
See you on the road!

I may not be much help with particulars but I'm jealous you are going. We did that area last summer on our 1st full-timing summer trip!! Great and beautiful. We stayed in Millinocket but forget name as we were in la-la land.. It was a family place with a pool, good showers, and some cabins, that we luckily got in on 4th of July week.tight but good. Regular local campers, not live-ins.. Did Baxter St Park and bugs were in full force on arrival but left by @ July 7th. (Don't wear black!!)Nice hikes, moose!!
In our toad, we went down a dirt/logging road and came across
Abol Campground.
"Book "said nothing larger than xyz.. (we're 40' + toad) but because we stopped in he said "you'd probably fit in a couple.." we loved our week there and was hard to leave!! No hook ups but right on the river overlooking Mt Katahdin! Differnet view everyday of the mtn, and some Applachian hikers at the end of their 3 month+ trip! Awesome spot..
WE also did Moosehead Lake, staying at Lily Bay ST Park. Awesome park with BIG/natural sites, alot on the water! Boat docks avail also. No hookups but can wash dishes at local spot. Bike or drive short distance to the great showers depending on your camp loop. (good outhouse types at campsites).Greenville is @ 9 miles with internet/cell ph service, library, store, RX with soda fountain in shop! GReat town too! If you want to PM me, I'll send what else I remember or photos..
Have a great time,
Nancy

Balsam Woods in Abbott Village will not disappoint you. It's near Greenville and close to Titcomb's Store (great ice cream). Nicest cg North of Wiscasset (Chewonki).
