We RV every summer for 4-5 months , each time to different States/Provinces.
In 2009 we started in N.B and visited,Maine-NH-VT and Upstate NY ending the trip next to Toronto.
In 2010 we plan to pick up the rig from Toronto ( it is stored there for the winter)and Explore North West Ontario-Michigan-Pennsylvania-Maryland , Virginia and back to Toronto (from June till October)
Planning is part of the fun and I am going to do it during the winter.
Our interests are mainly nature oriented, hikes, scenic drives, history, culture and special attractions.
Would be happy to get suggestions.
Thank you.

You'll find plenty of scenic drives and history in those areas! Just a few, off the top of my head:

Gettysburg, PA
Bethlehem, PA (off most people's "radar" but very historic)
northwestern PA, where oil was first discovered in the U.S.
lots of mountains in PA, from the Poconos in the n.e. to the really big ones farther west

The Williamsburg-Jamestown-Yorktown area of VA - plan to spend at least a week!
Blue Ridge Pkwy & Shenandoah Valley, VA - lovely scenery
Monticello (Jefferson's home)
several Civil War battlefields in MD & VA

We spent a 3-week camping vacation in Michigan this fall and just scratched the surface! Some must-sees:

Mackinac Island
Soo Locks (Sault Ste Marie)
Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point
Sleeping Bear Dunes (n.w. lower peninsula)
the Lake Michigan & Lake Huron shore areas (lots of state parks along those routes)
Holland (especially good in tulip time)
Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield Village, Dearborn

lots to see & do around Washington, DC (Smithsonian; memorials for WWII, Korean War, Vietnam, etc.; Arlington National Cemetery (JFK's grave etc, etc.)

Finally Fulltiming

Summer: Finger Lakes, NY; Winter: Somewhere warm

Ditto the above, plus check out the Delmarva(Delaware-Maryland-Va)Peninsula. My favorites are Assateague NP on the MD end of Assateague & Chincoteague, VA on the southern end.

Hi,

Last summer we traveled the Great Lakes Circle Tour starting in Detroit, Michigan and ending in Minnesota in the area called Northshore. It was fabulous. We spent 6 weeks traveling the shoreline of Michigan and crossed the Mackinaw Bridge to the Upper Penisula of Michigan and the over to Duluth, Minn. and up to the Northshore. We will do it again in a few years and do the other side of Michigan and visit the northshore of Minn. again. It's all about the scenery. Plan and make your reservations early. We went in July but made our reservations in Jan. for the private campgrounds so we could have a shoreline campground. We did stay at some of the Michigan State Parks. Check their website for their reservation window.

Suggest you send for a tourism guide from every state you want to visit; lots of information contained therein.

In Grand Rapids, MI visit the Gerald Ford presidential museum. Even if you're not a republican, it's an interesting place. Michigan has more lighthouses and more golf courses (this surprised me) than any other state.

Thank you all for your input and suggestions.
I have at this time another question:
Going South on the Delaware/Maryland Peninsula towards Virginia which coast is more interesting ?East-Delaware or West -Maryland?
Thank you.

One of the more interesting Civil War battlefields that we visited was in St. Petersburg, Va.just south of Richmond. I didn't see it mentioned with the other sites to see on your trip. Be sure whichever site you visit to make sure you get a tour from a ranger or a tourguide. The one that I mentioned was a ranger led tour and was really informative of the Civil War and the siege of Petersburg that lasted almost a year. The other places mentioned are really great places to visit also.
Of course there is all the museums and sites in Washington D.C. that are free also, and a great place for history buffs.
Some of the most interesting nature sites are the wildlife refuges also.

A couple of suggestions for Michigan. This route follows Lake Superior shoreline from east to west.

--Soo Locks in Sault Ste Marie
--Brimley State Park (west of Sault Ste Marie-nice quiet park)
--Munising (nice city park along M-28 west of town on the lake)
--Waterfalls and trails around Munising
--Pictured Rocks Nat'l Lakeshore in Munising
--Marquette (Tourist Park campground just north of town)
--Marquette's Upper Harbor & Presque Isle Park (watch ore boats)
--National Ski Hall of Fame in Ishpeming, MI
--Van Riper State Park (west of Marquette-quiet park on a big lake)
--Keweenaw Peninsula (around Houghton/Hancock area and north)
--Porcuepine Mountains area south of Ontonagon (great trails)
