I live in the US and travel by RV 6 months out of the year. My doctor has recently suggested that I go on Crestor, for lowering my choloresterol. My medical coverage doesn't cover prescription drugs, so I can buy Zocor for $48 annually or go on Crestor for $1225 annually. Do any of you fellow travelers know where or how I could obtain the Crestor at a greatly reduced price? I have used Medco for mail-order, but have not tried any other mail-order services. Has anyone solved such a problem or has any suggestions? I'm not on medicare, so no help there.
On a related issue, I have been able to tolerate the muscle pain with zocor. I don't know if Crestor will help with that too. Has anyone noticed a reduction in muscle pain with Crestor? Thanks in advance, KRJ

At the risk of actually sounding as if I'm encouraging someone to ingest that kind of poison, if the medication is too expensive for you and your doctor says you need it, contact the company that produces it. Most of the big drug companies will provide low cost/no cost drugs to people who cannot afford them otherwise. I was just able to get 2 weeks worth of Zyvox (2600 dollars worth) for someone for free from Pfizer, just for the time it took to make a few phone calls.
Of course personally I'd go with fish oil and niacin, but that's just me. You sound pretty committed to better living through chemicals, and that's your choice. I will say, however, if you're taking that kind of stuff please research and make sure you're getting adequate levels of CoQ10. Also keep in mind that cholesterol is needed to produce vitamin D, so you want to be sure you are not deficient there.

Is your Choloresterol high even on Zocor or does your doctor just want you to go on Crestor?

I simply told my doctor that I could not afford "Name Brand" drugs and he prescribed "PRAVASTATIN" for my cholesterol..
Only $4 a month or $10 for a 90 day supply... and...... the doctor wrote the prescription for a YEAR..... so I could save the cost of his office visits..
Maybe your doctor would do the same for you ?? won't hurt to ask him..

TWO CENTS WORTH
The story goes that a man died and was approached by the Devil who told him that he could buy his soul back for a dollar. The man searched his pockets and could only come up with 98 cent. While begging the Devil to forget the two cent he was short, an Angel happened by and hearing the Devil laughing, asked the man, "Would you mind if I put in my two cents ?" The Devil got so mad that he exploded in a puff of smoke and the man's soul was saved.
The moral: Sometimes putting in your two cents worth makes a difference.

Exactly the same thing that I did, and it worked for me as well. Sometimes I think that docs write prescriptions for drugs that the pharmaceutical reps promote. After all, they do spend a lot of time and company money giving them free drug samples, taking them to lunch, etc.. Once I told my doc that my health insurance didn't have prescription coverage, he changed over to the cheap generic stuff that I can get almost anywhere for $10 for a 3 month supply. I only have one that costs more, since there isn't a generic for it yet. Good luck.

This community is so helpful! My doctor knows that I don't have prescription coverage. He really likes me on Lipitor and I do get good results...I just can't stand the calf pain it gives me. Has anyone actually used the Canadian mail-order pharmacy, and if so, is it reliable? As my doctor wants me to try Crestor, I gather he would give me the prescription and I would mail it to the Canadian pharmacy? That would save me 47% right there. Thanks again for any info. KRJ

Lipitor was first prescribed and I had sore thigh muscles. Blue Cross recommended that I try Pravastatin. Sore muscles went away within two weeks. Cholesterol has stayed low and I have saved $90 per month for the past two years.
