So I bought this 1161 a couple weeks ago at, what I thought was a low price. When I was inspecting the unit before I bought it I noticed a slight sag under the slide out. I had done my homework on the 1161 and read that this was a common problem and could be fixed on your own, I happen to be a fabricator so I thought no problem. I also noticed that the filon had pulled out of the skirt slightly from the sag. I contacted sleepy a couple days ago to get any info I could on the sag fix, and he was very helpful. So I just moved the camper indoors a couple days ago and finnally had the chance to go over tonight and dig into it. So the first thing I did when I got there was pull the metal trim molding off the bottom under the slide out... when I did it started pouring water out, and kept pouring water for some time. To save you from all the terrible details I have water damage bad, real bad. I was crushed. The main support that runs along the bottom under the slide was completely falling apart where it connects to the front of the camper under the jack. How the slide out hasnt fallen out completly I have no idea. I took pictures and will likely post them tommorow. I paid 8000 dollars for this unit and aside from the water damage and sag it is spotless everywhere else. The interior is flawless. I was hoping to find someone that has went through this as well and could guide me through replaceing some of this rotted wood. Or has pictures of a fix. Ive contacted doug means at lance and he has sent me some vague prints of the camper and a couple photos of an interior sag fix. Any help or advice would be great

Paperclip . . . welcome to the forum.

Sounds like you got an outstanding price . . . then found out why. Still sounds like a good deal given the rest of the camper is in good shape. Sleepy knows the 1161 well and has good contacts at Lance.

If you get a chance post some photos, it may help others to make recommendations on the repairs.

Chad,

The shame of it is... there are a lot of good looking campers out there that have problems like this... that don't show until one thing goes wrong... like the Sag, or a crack in the Filon, or a bit of delamination around a window.

When we talked on the phone I was afraid that you'd have some skirt damage... it seems that most campers have problems there early on.

Like you, I didn't anticipate the rot, just the sag.

We talked about Mooneys sheet metal door/skirts... you being a fabricator with metal skills... maybe it's time to think out of the box.

FIX the roof first... 99% of the water problems start there.

Then tackle the sides.

and the slide area.

Did you feel for the delamination areas like we talked about?

I personally would ask Lance for a quote for the repair... logic... they have the materials. You only have $8000 in it. (Maybe the repairs were anticipated... the reason you got the excellant price.)

At least then you'd have a basis for doing your own figures.

Someday I'm going to have mine "Linexed." coat it with the bed liner stuff.

I don't know what else I can do but you have my phone number.

Mooneys sheet metal... on his special Host.

I think that this is the answer to many of our problem areas.. the metal areas actually hinge up.

With one of his sheet metal doors in the up position to get to his generator. The powder coating was flawless.

And you'd better start checking around the front windows and the running lights.

Here's the front look at mooneys camper... just to complete the look at it. You'll note... there aren't any running lights or windows.

Maybe it’s not a concern for some here but I would never post a picture of my license plate when it only takes a few minutes to look up that person’s real name and address having that information.

Too many nutjobs and criminals out there lurking around just waiting for an opportunity!

Looking for any information available on Del Rey "Sky Lounge" and Kamp King slide-ins for preservation/restoration projects.

Sleepy mentioned another trouble spot to check for water intrusion, around the cabover front window and front marker lights.

I am willing to bet that there are more TC's out there a few years old that have some type of water intrusion than not if used frequently.

Don't beat yourself up over it, I am convinced it is the nature of the beast in all TC's. It is not a question of if its going to leak or not, it is when is it going to leak.

Good Luck with you repairs, I hope it will turn out fine for you.

No need to be an idiot about this, I was just being nice offering a suggestion, maybe you could be nice in return when responding!

I posted it because criminals may wanna visit Mooney's home next time he mentions hes away camping.
