We are interested in a new '08 Cayman with the 340 Cummins. I've read varying opinions on that line and the RR4R chassis. We'd like to hear comments from newer Cayman owners or people familiar with them. I know all about the no warranty policy.

The RR4R has had problems with the trailing arms---big time recall on that which Monaco will not do anymore...and I understand the ride stinks....Navistar won't even build the RR4R chassis anymore...Please do a search on the forum for trailing arms and this should all come up.

I say nix the 4R completely...I'm not trying to rain on your parade..I'm trying to save your wallet.

The ride is VERY rough... see if you can find a Monaco Knight or HR Ambassador even if they are a little older

My SIL just went from a 2003 Fleetwood DP on a Freightliner chassis, to an 08 Cayman on the RR4R chassis and are very pleased with the ride and handling. They bought it in central CA(DeMartini RV) and left from the dealers lot headed to WI and return, so they got a chance to try it out. Not all the 4R chassis are having the problem and the 08 has the newer generation trailing arms. If you can get a killer deal, there is a company that has an upgrade package that consist of new trailing arms, larger air bags and other chassis upgrades, but I am not convinced you need those, after talking to many who are driving 08/09 Caymans.

We have been looking at upgrading to a diesel, and recently drove a 2008 Cayman as part of our search process. We also drove a Winnebago Journey and Discovery, and a Fleetwood Expedition (all 2008). The ride on the Cayman was awful, and certainly no better than my Bouder gas. Ride on the Winnebagos' and Fleetwood were much better and seemed comparable to me. Price, specifications, floor plan, dealer, etc came into the final decision and we choose the Expedition 38F.

The Cayman fit and finish inside was very good, but I just couldn't get over the poor ride.

Off topic. So much for Bounder Billy signature!

We have an 08 Cayman 37PDQ and are very unhappy with the ride of this coach. Add to that the white knuckle driving in windy conditions and front end bouncing down the road. I thought we test drove it on enough different roads but I was mistaken. We got a very good deal on this coach, but having owned it for 5 months it wasn't a good enough deal. There is a reason the new Monaco has discontinued the RR4R chassis.

We have a 2009 Cayman and i really don't see anything wrong with the ride. as for handling in windy conditions youu just need a seady hand no different than driving any other MH that is 12' high they all act like sails. I say go for it if you get a great deal. After 9000 miles we have had only a few minor things go wrong and we fixed them ourself

We have a 2008 Monaco Cayman XL 38PBD and coming from a P30 gas coach I can say the ride is a HUGE improvement. I would not consider it harsh. I can compare it to other coaches I have been a passenger in, I can't compare other DPs as driver because this is the only DP I have driven.
