A couple of months ago, someone said in a post:
"I guess you guys havent been keeping up with the florida residency threads. Come Oct. if you plan on having a florida drivers license (at renewal time) you'll need a physical address, AND proof you actually live there."
I also remember another post that said the costs for tags, registration, etc, would be doubling in Florida real soon.
I'm wanting to get my residency in Florida now and wondering if anyone knows about any changes that would affect establishing a domicile in Florida.

You'll need a mail forwarding service. Look into either St. Brendan's Isle or Good Sam. Both will provide you with an address. Afterwards, go to the DMV and get your driver's license. Then go register your vehicle(s). Would be wise to establish your banking in FL. I use Bank of America, as they are almost everywhere I travel. Also get your voter registration taken care of. You can vote in State and Fed elections, with restrictions at the local level. Don't forget your insurance matters.

Fees are going up. But comparatively speaking, they weren't bad to start with. BTW, I'm a FL resident. But I haven't been there in a year. I'll probably take care of my tag when I arrive later this month (trucks are due in Dec), as well as my DL which is due in July 2010.

Good luck.

Does anyone know if Florida will let you renew your drivers license 6-9 months in advance.
Mine expires next November, but I will not be in the area by then...
My DH has to go in -per the web site- to renew his - but I think that is because he has the OLD, really OLD, type of license and he needs his picture re-taken. I too have the OLDer type license, so I was hoping to renew it in January
before we leave the area.

(I mean, what would happen if you were out of the country traveling when your license renews, but knew it in advance, wouldn't they let you renew it ahead of time?)

The DMV website contains the requirements for getting a driver's license. Yes, most fees have risen considerably but are still less than most states. Foe instance, my MH tags are still less than $100 per year.

AntiqFreq: We were at the FL DMV last week. You can renew your driver's license 1 year ahead of the expiration date.

We have sold our home and have gotten a UPS Mailbox for receiving mail. We had no problems getting our driver's license changed listing the UPS Mailbox address. They wanted to know what our physical address was and we gave them a local campground address that we will be at initially. No "proof" was required.
