I have a 1998 Bounder with a Onan BGM 5500 generator. It has two issues. (1) Bad starter or solenoid. (2) Heads need decarbonizing.

Does anyone know if should remove the generator from the rv to work on these issues? It looks sort of crowded in the RV's generator compartment.

The starter solenoid is behind the control panel cover.
The starter is behind the generator and the unit really needs to come out for a non-ONAN tech to change it.

The unit only needs de-carboning if it is pinging or their is a knocking sound due to carbon falling into the combustion chamber and being crushed.
The unit must be removed from the coach to decarbonize the heads and THE INTAKE AND EXHAUST VALVES. Try ONAN C4 or Sea Foam slowly poured into the intake first.
