I carry a Little Giant knockoff from Wally World. It's made by Keller and is very nice for a lot less money. I think I paid $85 for it and it extends 13 feet.

6' Fiberglass Stepladder.. (NOT ALUMINUM IMHO-Safety)

I tried the 8ft it was to long (Preferred). CW has a nice one that collapses, rather light (alum.) for about $100.00

I keep one of these in the rig:
Telescoping ladder.
It's solid, and much like a ''real'' extension ladder when deployed. It takes up little space in the basement. It doesn't weigh too much, maybe 25 lbs. or so.
On edit:
I also carry a three step step-stool for reaching the tops of windows etc. The telescoping ladder is for getting up on the roof when needed.
FMCA# F355513. 40 foot, one slide, Cat powered Magnum Blue Max chassis, PAC brake PRXB, Allison MD3060, Aqua-Hot, 7.5 KW Quiet Diesel, Howard PCS, Velvet Ride suspension. 2006 Jeep Commander attached via a Blue Ox Aventa II; stopped with a Brake Buddy.

The collapsible ladder PJG061073 provided works great and folds the size of a 4X4 - couldn't ask for anything better. Love it.
