My wife just retired and we want to go to Florida for the month of March 2010. We would like some feed back on campgrounds/rv parks on the Gulf side of the state. It's so hard to pick one from the internet or campground directory. Would like to be within public transportation of the beaches. Any recommendations?

tell us more about what is important to YOU in a campground -

for example - do you like large paved sites in a huge park with bingo every week, a fitness center or something more rustic where you can have a campfire every night after fishing off a pier???

Also important to consider - what are you camping in? recommendations for a 45 foot class A vs a 20 foot travel trailer will vary.

Thanks for your reply..at this point we are father flexible. We want to get a feel for the area to see if it's a good fit for us. Clean is on the top of the list. A paved pad is good...we don't need the bingo thing. Not too fancy...we prefer simple rather than excessive. We enjoy nature.

Here is one of our favorites. Near St. Pete. If you walk or ride a bike you can easily get to the beaches.

Fort DeSoto Park.

Blackwater River SP near Holt, FL - northeast of Pensacola, inland - is a beautiful park. Sites are spacious, graveled, FHU, nice clean newer bathhouse. (I'd recommend site #11 if you can get it.) Not sure I'd spend a month there, but it would be great for a week or so. Quiet, lots of nature. You do get helicopters flying over from a nearby Navy base, but otherwise, it's rather off the beaten path.

Lots of posts on this site about Topsail, a SP on the Gulf. Haven't been there, but a lot of folks think it's the best thing since sliced bread. FHUs there too.

I just noticed that you are listed as a new member so you might not know about checking www.campgroundreviews.com for campground information. Take a look at it if you haven't already done so. Lots of good information on that website about specific campgrounds too.

St Andrews ST Park, Panama City (but in March you might not have great weather..lots of cold fronts coming through bringing severe weather at times.

Fort Desoto, St Peteersburg Fl...great county park

Oscar Scherer SP, Sarasota Fl.

If you go to central Fl or south you will have better weather.

Florida has beautiful state parks.

We like Dunedin RV Park. In March there probably won't be much beach time.
