Great unit, we purchased a 36FS this past July from Camping World in Albuquerque, NM. Very good dealership.
I would highly recommend asking for a tow set-up to be thrown in with the purchase. The 36FS (Seneca's) are very well built, but you will experience issues. We had a leak in the shower, was fixed under warranty. We also have some minor issues that need to be repaired and all are covered under warranty. Jayco has been very responsive to getting the problems fixed.
If I could do it over, I would stay at a nearby campground for a few days and thoroughly run all the systems. If there is a problem, you can return to the dealer to have them fixed.
Also, consider the tax implications on where you purchase and register the rv. We purchased in NM because of the state sales tax rate, 3% and registration about $140. Very rv friendly state.
We have two young girls and a dog that we travel with around the US. Good gas mileage, I averaged 13 mpg going to FL from GA. Never had more than one third fresh water on board, empty black water and never went more than half full on the fuel tank. Drove btwn 60 and 63 mph. Expect about 10 mpg on average though.
The downside is that the stock radio is very poor IMHO. I like to listen to the radio while I drive and a satellite radio and better speakers would be much appreciated.
All-in-all, it is a very good rv and we are very satisfied, especially since Jayco seems to be standing behind their product.

Neal: We purchased an 08 36fs that stickered out at $153,000 for $111,000. So I don`t think you are getting the "deal" you think you are. With an RVdirect price in hand you are in a better position to negotiate now. Bear in mind there will be no "freebies" and It costs money to ship to California. We shopped around with the rvdirect price in hand, it made for some very simple negotiations because "here is the price I have been quoted are you willing to sell your in stock unit that is costing you money every month to sit on your lot for this or do I get it there?"
There was not that many dealers at that time that would try to compete with RVDirect. Mardens trailer sales in Havre Montana were the only one I could find that quoted me within $1500 of what RVDirect wanted. Montana is closer to me than (at the time RVDirects closest lot) New York.
The changes from 08 to 10 are really only colors and now you can have a small pull down tv in both bunks and I guess the built in GPS. You may do a better deal on a new old stock one if you can find one with the options you want (do not SETTLE for what some salsman has in stock, you will be spending way too much money not to get exactly what you want).
We had ours ordered with the colors and options we wanted and that could be a cheaper way of getting one also,as the dealer does not have to stock it. The day its delivered to him, he sells it to you. He has your money within a week of getting his bill.
Either way best of luck, you will enjoy the 36FS, especially with small kids

Wow, I'm starting to get worried about buying a Seneca after hearing all these quality control issues and difficulty with warranty work. Our 5'er is a Weekend Warrior and most of the posts I read about them were similar, poor workmanship and poor quality control, but our experience was great with Weekend Warrior. We live , ( when they were in business) near their manufacturing plant and had nothing but red carpet treatment. Is everyone having these bad experiences? Is anyone happy with their Seneca? I'm hoping a extremely thorough PDI ( by me) before delivery will help?

We have a Seneca 34SS which we bought out of state and brought back to SoCal. The people at Richardson's RV service center in Riverside did an acceptable job with the few small things we needed to have done under the 2 year warranty. Look for a medium duty Chevy truck dealer for anything "Motor" related like wheel balance and alighment after delivery. Ours needed both corrected but was handled under the truck part of the warranty. Hope you have as much fun as we have with ours.
See you on the road.

We have a 2008 36FS that we got in Dec 07, have over 10,000 miles & love it. Pleanty of sleeping room for the all 6 of us and easy to drive after the first 200 miles. You should enjoy it and especially if you get it for the price you want.

Every new RV has issues, find a good local dealer, because you're going to need to get the bugs worked out. We had some issues with the DVD, the black tank handle broke, but nothing major. Allow lots of time for the walk thru and point out any issues before you sign the paperwork. ALSO make sure to go thru and hand check all the water lines, mine leaked on the first trip. Your also going to miss the grey tank capacity, but I would not go back to a 5th wheel.

Do not go by % of MSRP. GrumpyandGrandma gave very good advice. Shoot for 99K if you can find an 2009 model. The "asking" price on RVtrader is also inflated. Find a few models you like and send the dealer an email telling him/her what you are willing to pay-if you do this to enough dealers, you may get a very good deal. Take your time-do not get caught up in the emotion of the purchase

We purchased a 4 year old Diesel 34SS HD in July and paid $56K for it from a private seller. It is like brand new and had/has absolutly no problems with it. I had the unit completely resealed (roof/windows) as I live in a humid climate) but all the other maint had been completed on time. It also already had the air bags installed and drives like a dream. The diesel has more power than you can ever use.
I sell and purchase about avery 3-4 years so I refuse to purchase new. Consider purchasing used. There are some killer deals out there right now!
PS.....We service our unit at Ft. Lauderdale RV on 441 (SR7) and Bill and his team do a great job!
