My wife and I have been debating moving up to a MH for a couple of years now. We have been back and forth gas vs diesel, class A vs class C/super C, and cost vs keeping what we have. We have never found something that works for what we want, since we need towing capacity but don't want a giant diesel pusher. Well last Saturday we found it at the Pomona RV show the 2010 Jayco Seneca 36FS, we have looked at the Senecas before but they finally made a couple of changes that make this the perfect fit for us (we have 3 kids).
Here is where my questions comes, purchase price? This will be the biggest, scariest ( as far as price) purchase we have ever made excluding real estate. At the dealers the MSRP's are between $150,000 - $160,000, at the show the were $135,000 (show price) but I got the impression the were still willing to deal below the show price. We have been going on 12 - 15 trips a year for the last 5 years so we can justify the upgrade but i want a good deal, no I want a great deal. When we purchased our 5'er we were around 24% below sticker which I felt very good about. My feeling is the current motorhome market they should be willing to deal. We will be putting 20% down with no trade-in. What price should I feel good about? Is 24% off sticker realistic in the motorhome market? Any help will be beneficial we are looking to purchase right after the first of the year.
Thanks in advance

You will love the unit but I would do some on-line shopping to see if any dealers around your area have any 09 left overs. Our dealer here in Cincy just had one (new never titled) that he listed for $99,000.00 and I know he probably did some dealing on top of that. I got our 08 before the big downturn for 35% off of msrp.
You might even want to contact JAYCO to see if they know of any dealers with some left over units close to your area.
GOOD LUCK

Take a look at RVDIRECT and price it out as you like. This will give you a good idea about what you can expect to pay.

I am thinking about the same unit. A Seneca FS. I also have 3 kids. Please post what pricing you find.

33% off the true manufacturer's MSRP would be a great deal on a new MH. 30% off would be a very good deal, IMO.

Hey There and congrats,
I bought my new '08 Seneca this past Feb. at 27-30% off plus they threw in some freebies. (tow bar/brake buddy installed.
There are some great deals still out and will be for some time.
Ask about the 19000# springs on drive axel, anti-sway bars front and back, Michelin tires, safe-t-plus steering, track bars front and back, Upgreaded shocks, tow package, etc.
Never know what might ring their bell to make the sale.

Just a comment/question...you do realize that the practical towing capacity of that rig, loaded and ready to travel, will most likely be somewhere between 4,000 & 5,000 lbs, don't you?
If that fits within your towing requirements, great. If it doesn't, then I think you need to be looking at something else.
As for "show prices", with very few exceptions, the prices I've seen at shows aren't anything special. Don't be rushed into anything, especially a purchase of this size. Take your time and do all of your research before you put ANY money down.
Good Luck,

Thank you for everyones advice it has been very helpful. And thanks 1mtnman, rvdirect got back to me with a quote this morning that puts me closer to a amount that feels like a great deal, and to a number where I would feel more comfortable. So hopefully after the first of the year I'll be able to post some pictures of our new MH.
