I think I've ask this before, but cannot find old post, so I'm reasking.

Is there any special type of caulking needed to be used in the TPO roofing material?

TIA and I promise I'll keep better notes this time!

I am interested to see the responses you get to this question.

This last summer I was cleaning the roof and noticed the sealant flopping when I brushed the cleaner around. My solution was to thoroughly clean the roof, with some cleaner I got at the farm store, I don't recall the brand. The directions said to use stronger solutions, mixed with bleach, for bugs and tar. Having parked under a fir or pine tree several times I had plenty of spots with pitch on the roof. There were also plenty of bugs on the front. After a thorough cleaning, I got some tubes of self leveling sealer. I was generally disappointed at the thinness of the sealer that was there, and per the directions from my brother who is an RV tech, I applied it fairly thick. All I needed was a caulking gun. It settled down nicely and sealed all the thin areas, I am now happier than I was with the quality of the seal. After it was all said and done, I waxed the front to see if it will make the bugs easier to get off next time.

The factory the built mine used self leveling sealer. Last year I did all my roof seams with Eternabond tape.

Most TPO roofs in the last 5 or 6 years are made by ALPHA. They aslo make a lap sealant to use on the TPO roofs. Here is a link to their web site.

I agree with the above, use the Dicor self leveling for the flat surfaces, and their regular for the vertical ones. Main thing is NO petroleum products on a rubber roof. No silicone, etc. Eternabond will work ok if you get a tear in the fabric but I'd use the caulks on any seams.

But isn't the TPO a vinyl, not rubber? Can you use silicone on the TPO?
