The Sprinter will be replaced by the IVECO Daily, which has a 9000lb payload capacity. IVECO and Mercedes are intense rivals in the Van market in Europe. Seeing FIAT owns IVECO, its products will be underpinning a lot of new Dodge Vans and Commercials.

Sprinter will still be here, only sold by Mercedes and Freightliner rather than Dodge.

RobertRyan... do you have a link confirming the IVECO decision? The last article that I read said that the decision wasn't yet made between the IVECO or DUCATO.

No it was a prediction on my part. The Ducato rides better etc, but does not tow much and has a lowish floor height.. The IVECO is a lot like the Sprinter, which current small Class C US Motorhomes are based on. In Australia(similar in many ways to US conditions) the IVECO is the basis of many of smaller Class C motorhomes.

Looks maybe like both Ducato and Iveco are in store for Dodge...

"Also in 2012, Dodge will unveil a new commercial van based on a Fiat vehicle to replace the Dodge Sprinter, which ends production in the 2009 model year. A smaller commercial van that would be built by Fiat is also under consideration for 2012."

The Iveco Daily is a closer match in size, weight, and capacity to the Sprinter that Dodge is losing. The Ducato is more like a heavy-duty commercial minivan, a market every manufacturer covers in Europe, but we don't have it here.

It is unlikely that either will sell as a Dodge. Fiat has announced that there will be no trucks in the Dodge brand in the future, there will be a new Ram brand for Fiat/Chrysler commercial vehicles in the U.S.

Looks like they went with the Ducato, not a great choice in that role. The other van will be a Fiat minivan like the Ford Transit Connect.

Do you suppose GM's decision to hang onto Opel/Vauxhall was partly for their vans?

I just read that Mercedes has sign up 100 dealers to sell and service Sprinters. Has anyone seen a list of new dealers who will service and sell Sprinters? The Dodge dealers are still going to service the older Sprinters also (hopefully).

MB will sign up 100+- MB dealers. The key word is will as the dealer network has not been awarded as yet. The FL dealers are to be kept. Unit will still be assembled in USA.

Check with your local dealer or "google" after 1/1/2010

New Blu-Tec engine comming. More HP /Torque and hopefully better fuel economy.
