With these new AGM batteries the 1st main difference is their size. I currently have 2 Group 24 deep cycle that I am replacing with 2 AGM batteries. Instead of having to get new battery boxes and having the battery mount area rewelded to fit the AGM size I wondered if I can relocate these into the storage area under the bed that tilts up? I have seen that there are ventilation and gassing specifications for my batteries when they are being charged, but it seems common in other posts that others put AGM batteries directly inside.

If I can locate them into the storage area mentioned would it be recommended to build a separate box to store and secure the batteries? I also considered (and read in another post) to use foam gasket under the bed frame to help seal the storage area from the inside of the trailer.

AGM batteries can vent but that is not ever expected so they are used inside a lot.

No battery should ever be stored inside an unvented compartment. Hydrogen gas is very explosive. There will be those that will say that they do it all the time with no problems, but all it takes is one vent and a little spark. If you have never seen a battery explode you are in for a great experience. I would not do it, my life and the lives of my family are too important for that. JMHO, and you will get plenty of others.

FWIW: I have 4 Trojan L-16s in the TH....4 T-105s in the TT....They all NEED venting, and I have them all inside---all are strapped down under beds---all are enclosed in 20-mil plastic bags which are attached with HD electrical tape to two 2" outside vents (I think they were called compartment vents) in each rig....Although I check battery SG and electrolite reularly, the only cost is more tape! All are under beds---and that's the only access I have to them.

Bottom line is, it's an easy mod....been doin' it this way for 13 years with TT, and 5 years with the TH without any difficulties.....the batteries are warm & safe and close to charger, inverter, and distribution---and they're all at the rear of the Ts---far removed from any ignition source....makes sense!

A PROPERLY maintained AGM battery will not gas. When I say properly, I'm pointing out the different charge rate 14.4 for the AGM vrs 14.8 for the wet cell.
You can put the AGMs anywhere they will fit. I personally would not place them near a source of ignition (they are still a battery). but under a bed, in a closet, under a dinette, or anywhere else that they can be tied down will work.

My two are under my dinette seat. They don't gas, AGM means Absorbed Glass Mat and you will notice on the tops of the batteries there are no vents for escaping gases. They are used by the military and in hospital equipment and are very safe indoors. We dry camp five nights easily with our big guys.

AGM is not exempt from venting by RVIA standards.
Most likely you will have no issues.

But, AGM is exempt from venting in aircraft, and are acceptable for use in any position. No problem whatsoever inside the camper, provided (as mentioned above) it is properly maintained. Monitor the connections tightness, make darned sure the charge setup is accurate.

We installed a honker (10" X 20" X 8") in our TT, it was wonderful. Placed it under the bed, all the way forward in the cabin. Securely mounted to the floor with hd perf angle and two battery tie-down brackets.

If you have a space problem, you can use Optima batteries and mount them horizontally one on top of the other.I did this for a client a few yrs ago.

I have four Lifeline GPL-4C 6-Volt AGM Batteries installed by AM Solar in a front exterior storage area which seems custom built to fit these batteries with no venting.
