Thanks everyone, It makes me feel better that I`m not alone or the only one that feels this way. I just hope in time it will get better and I know Salem would want me to take the new kittens all places she went. It`s just so hard not having her with me, she really was a special cat.

I’m sorry your feeling so down/sad. I think you have to have the confidence that you gave her the best 8 years of her life.

Our pets do not live as long as we would like. It’s the saying that many times the brightest star is the shortest lived.

It’s that they give us so much, that makes it so hard. For me it never get’s easier, but each time I find my way through the sadness and loss.

When it was time, I brought another in. Not to be replaced nor forgotten, but to start a new chapter and to give another a chance at a life.

Prayers to you, that you find the strength and direction to cope with the loss of your Beloved Salem.

I have told my friends when they suffered a loss, that giving a home to another needy pet is a fine tribute to the one lost. If you have given a animal a loving home and a good life, why not do the same for another needy pet? They might be your next heart cat! My tomcat Bobby Seale has become my heart cat-after the loss of my baby Runt. Btw, I practice what I preach too ;-)

As I said in my earlier post I know how you feel. Something I did do was plant a plant in the In Menory Garden that I started at our local SPCA. We also sell little plaques for our IN Memory wall so I bought a plaque for the boys. I also wrote a poem for the SPCA Christmas letter and it seemed to bring in more money that year than ever before. Maybe doing something for your local SPCA in honour of your furbaby would be a great way to help with the pain. Just a thought

I feel that way too and have adopted 2 kittens from my vet. I adopted them before we lost Salem because I knew in my heart she wouldn`t be here much longer. Cassie is starting to have the makings of a heart cat and Jewel is a real sweetheart but a Torti Terror

I started on a small Memory garden for Salem and Duchess and just planted some tulip bulbs with a frame around it of grape Hyacinth bulbs and bought one of those mini metal garden fences. I`m going to order a personalized angel cat statue for Salem & Duchess to put in the garden too.

I`m going to make a donation in their memory to my vet`s clinic, she does alot of rescue and adoption work and is where I adopted Jewel and Cassie.

That is nice and I am sure the vet clinic can use it to help rescues. It doesnt matter who or where they are helped as long as they are helped.
As for the tortie well well well I dont know where to start. Marble is a tortie and is 13 yrs old. Right now I am watching her run through the house like she is on fire just because the other 3 are sleeping and she knows no one will get us to stop her. The other nite she started running about 2 in the morning so I got up and told her if she didnt stop running as hard and as fast as she could that I was going to put her in her hut for the nite because I needed to go to work in the am. well she waited until I got in bed and she ran from the other end of the mobile right to the bedroom door and stopped and sat there then she ran back again and then right back to the bedroom door and stopped again. by this time I am chuckling to myself at her antics and after a few minutes she went to bed.
Torties are so fun. I have thoroughly enjoyed the past 12 yrs with Marble. Boy the stuff she does. I hope you enjoy your tortie as much as I have mine. Believe me when you get up in the morning the way your day will go will be decided by her. Total tortitude. There is a website about torties. They sure can make you laugh and heal your heart.

I remember that you lost your dear Salem the day after we lost our cat Kiki after 20 years. I still cry thinking about her, but I'm not ready to get another cat. I keep hoping she'll come back to me somehow. When she was being put to sleep we thanked her for coming to live with us and told her how much we loved her and that she was always welcome to come back to us. Boy, now the tears are really coming down.

I totally understand how you feel, and wish I could say something to make you feel better. Perhaps time will make it less painful. We still have our kids at home, so I'm still busy with them and DH and my work and that helps a lot. Plus, after 20 years, we were kind of expecting it sooner rather than later.

I just read this about a lady who lost her cat after 30 years: http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/33439100/n......../today-today_pets_and_animals/?GT1=43001.

Sue,

When you lost Salem, it really touched my heart. And especially since my heart kitty is now 16 and showing it (a soft black kitty will steal your heart every time, right?).

So please know that, yes, there are many folks here who share your loss. We hope your pain eases a little each month. And may those fond, funny memories stay as strong as ever.

I`m feeling a little better. The kittens are doing their best to keep me busy. I know I will always miss Salem and no one can take her place, those little black kitties are really special and can steal your heart. When the right one comes along I will add another to our family

That was an amazing article about the 30 yr old cat. I hope my current ones will stay with me at least into their teens.
