This link might be helpful for some -- looking for dog friendly destinations

http://www.dogfriendly.com/

Be aware that many of the hiking trails we've encountered in the State Parks would be rather strenuous for older dogs with health problems. Double check before you head out with the Park Ranger {some of the info pamphlets which claim to be EASY or MODERATE hikes -- AREN'T all that easy!! in one way or another }

However, the Pa'rus Trail in Zion NP is one hiking trail which DOES allow pets and is EASY. AND access is very close to the NP CGs {best done BEFORE the heat of the day though or on cooler days as there is very little to no shade}

On the North Rim of the Grand Canyon dogs are allowed on the Bridle Trail which is also a very EASY hike.

just reading the above link -- it mentions a GEOLOGY WALK RANGER LED TOUR WHICH ALLOWS DOGS {we plan to check into that one too }

The longest we left our dogs in the MH was 7 1/2 hours. We took a 1/2 day sightseeing cruise in Prince William Sound - something we didn't want to miss while we were in AK.

Before the cruise, we WALKED. Miles and miles. Even played fetch offleash in an empty parking lot. Then put them in the MH with the blinds closed and the TV on.

They were STILL passed out when we got back - didn't even greet us at the door.....LOL!!!

And this past weekend, we were visiting with family who rented a house on the ocean in FL - we were camped about 5 miles away. We just made it a point to run back to the dogs about every 4 hours, and they were fine. It was a crazy trip - drove to FL from MI; stayed 2 1/2 days; and drove back home. Not very dog-friendly; but I'm sure if you asked them whether they'd rather go with us, or stay in a kennel.....well - you KNOW what the answer would be....LOL!!!

Took a short trip to get out of the AZ heat this summer and headed to Show Low and the White Mountains to do some boondocking in the cool air.

We took two of our small dogs with us and on the way stopped for lunch. Since it was still 90* we parked the truck and trailer in the shade, set the dp chip to run the truck at 1500 rpms, left the AC on high and locked the pups inside. Unless one stepped on the brake and one moved the drive lever, we should have no problem. No problem, so I thought. Half way accross the street I realized I forgot my wallet, turned back to find my little darling standing on the drivers armrest with both paws on the window switches watching them go up and down, trying to figure when to jump out and follow us. I stayed with the dogs and my bride got lunch to go....

We now put them in carriers while we're away from the truck. Scary lesson.

Don't ya wish you would have had the camcorder handy for "America's Funniest Home Videos"

Our "little darlings" are certainly clever aren't they - my brother had a cat who knew how to turn the door knobs to open a door ... scared a babysitter half to death!!
