Might be going to Key Largo for a job. If I do the wife will stay behind. Anyone with knowledge of the area other than it's expensive. Should I stay on the main land and drive in each day or stay on the island? Any information would be a blessing.
Thanks

No reason not to stay in or near Key Largo. What it would cost to commute isn't worth it. Also if you stay on the mainland and there is an accident you will either not get to work or not get home.

From what we observed spending a winter not far from there last year, I tend to think that Susan is correct. There are plenty of RV parks there if you plan to stay in the RV. Traffic to and from the Key at rush hour is really bad, although they are working on widening the highway.

John Pennycamp State Park has RV spots and you may get some time there if you start now. But, between T-Day and Easter it is already full. Long Key St Prk is about 40 mi down the road and Curry Hammock (where we are right now)is about 15 miles further. But, same applies to all 4 state parks, they are long booked for dates between T-Day and Easter and max stay anytime is 14 consecutive days then you must leave for a day or change parks. We got some time last year because I happened to be online when somebody canx their Christmas reservations and I grabbed them. It is about 30 miles from the FL City/Homestead (minimum)and the road can be clogged especially on Fri evenings/Sat AM and Sun PM. Current in progress improvements will help, but will not eliminate this congestion. All that said, expect to pay a hefty price ($70+) for an RV spot in the Keys, especially in the winter. you can go to Fla-keys.com and find some links to RV Parks or you can do a search at Woodalls.com and get better info. It is a great place to be, I come down several times a year and during school do some substitute teaching to help pay the fun tab! Any specific questions let me know.

bobsea, can you give me a little more info. about substitute teaching while on the road? Are you required a license for each state or what? How would one go about getting started for substitute teaching? I have a degree but have not taught but it is thought that has crossed my mine. Thanks!
