Hello! I did a search on this topic and didn't find too many posts....does anyone have any info about working at Amazon that they would like to share? I have read everything available and know about the long hours and the standing/walking for 10 or 12 hours but I was wondering if there was any other information you would like to share? I read somewhere about the free camping but is that at the campgrounds listed on the Express website? Thanks for any help you can give us.

Hi,
Maybe I am missing something, but can you clarify more clearly what your question is? What is Amazon ? I was born and raised about 50 miles north of the Coffeyville area. Been away from that area for many years, but have never heard anything about Amazon in that vicinity.

I worked over 10 years in Distribution as a buyer, not at Amazon, but in another industry. We also did Inventory counts as needed. Every company is set up differently.
Working in any distribution/warehouse job means you'll be on your feet most of the day. They will have many positions. Picking and receiving uually means more walking. Packing/shipping usually means standing in one place for longer periods.
Their videos on receiving and inventory control also show quite a few other positions. It's really automated, so that must be why my orders always come correctly!

Hi Lisa and Bill,
We worked at Amazon last year and we met so many wonderful people that have now become good friends. For a workamping job, it is great that you make a better wage than others, plus a free site. The work is hard. We were pickers and wore pedometers to see how much we were walking. A slow night was 12 miles and a busy night would be around 16 miles. We arrived end of Sept for our assignment and it took till about 1st week in December to figure out the trick to not having our feet hurt. Some bosses are better than others...ours on 8th shift were awesome and we had a great time !! I've heard, and read, that a new park is being built and will be done in time for this season. It's closer to Amazon and there will be a building for potlucks, etc. Last year we started out at Walter Johnson park (with 3x a week honey wagon) and then moved to the new area that was JUST finished. Big mistake !! Was a giant mudpit and our truck got stuck and our rig was surrounded by mud. Now this year, the ground has had time to settle but I'm worried that this new park might not have enough time to settle and it may be the same thing for folks working this year. We aren't working there this year but many of our friends are returning. Hope this info helps. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Thanks for the info Linda...PLEASE tell me what the trick is to not have your feet hurt?? LOL...one of my biggest concerns is that physically I will not be able to do the job as I have fibro. But in this economy I have no choice if I want to be able to pay the bills. I am hoping I can do anything for 7 weeks. Which park is the new one, do you know?

If you call the Express Employment folks they can give you the exact name of the new park...up near Amazon. It's something like "Chief" or something similar.
As far as your feet, I learned from the Amazon "regulars" to rotate between shoes...We wore sneakers to pick in so one night one pair and then a different pair the next night then back to the other pair. We also bought all kinds of inserts and insoles for our shoes but the one that was fabulous was the Dr. Scholls arch one with 3 levels of support. It had these little plastic inserts to stiffen the arch support. i started out with it on medium, I believe and then would change to maximum insert if that wasn't enough. Made a HUGE difference in how my feet felt. As far as avoiding blisters....I would rub lotion or oil on my feet to keep the skin slippery so you don't make a condition where the skin binds and blisters. At first, when I would come home, I would sleep with my ankles up on a pillow for a while as they would really throb. The inserts and rotating shoes were the trick for me ! Hope this helps. Good info. We are waiting to hear if/when we will be working. Is one RV park closer to work than the other? I assume that both parks have FHU's...how do they handle assigning you to one or the other park?
