My wife and I just spent the summer (08) work camping in a so called prestigious RV camp resort located in Urbanna, Va. This was one of our worst experiances, and most work campers in attendance have encountered. Most monies were spent on the facade while the infrastructure literally was falling apart. One of my jobs was to trouble shoot these inadequate and sometimes illegal substructures. Often, schedules were changed without notification until you arrived at the office ready for work; even though there were many ways of contacting people. Greetings by management were non existing unless they wanted your immediate attention. Often treated like trailer trash, they would refer to the predesignated work camper area as the "getto". However, most RV's were well in excess of $100k; and all were very well cared for. Our contracts called for a minimum 20 to 32 hours per week per person with a bonus of $.50 per hour worked if your contractual agreement was fulfilled. We were asked, as most couples were to return next year, but declined. The work-campers that decline their offer to come back, their working hours were cut to as little as 8 hours in a 2 week pay period or no hours at all. A few said they would come back, even if they knew they were not. They were the only people scheduled to work. Consequently you either sat in your RV in the middle of no where, or the decision was made to leave. In which leaving was encouraged. It became very obvious they had no intention of honoring contracts they presented in an effort to save money. Do all the research possible on line and ask other work campers their opinion of the particular park your interested in. You might just save yourself some unexpected or unwanted heartship. A good question to ask is "how many return work campers will be there". There was none at this RV resort.

Yes, I think that would be nice. I am not a full timer or a work camper but do not want to stay at a place like described.
Prehaps some more info is needed also to confirm the treatment of the workcampers.

Ummm, there are only two RV parks in Urbana, Bethpage and Grey's Point, both owned and operated by the same company... I'm guessing you can take your pick!!

And both of these parks had huge ads in the Woodalls Camping Ways for November and December. I just saw it this evening. Thought it would be fun to work there, but boy don't like the sound of the Original post.
Although, I can't imagine working for them and making too much money to begin with. And if you were not getting minimum hours, does that mean the site is still free? But with all the activities that they have, wouldn't you still have enough things to do there?

I guess the name of the RV resort will remain a secret that the OP will take to his grave. 
I want to leave this earth quietly in my sleep like my grandfather and not like the hysterical, screaming passengers riding in granddad's RV just before the big crash.

Although we found our workamping jobs over the last 8 1/2 years on our own, this past January we decided to subscribe to Workamper News to see what information might be available there. In both their forum archives and the current forum, there are many posts detailing exactly what you state as the problems at those resorts.

Actually, you certainly can post a review even if it is scathingly bad. There are two private forums that are only available to paying subscribers. The one called "Workamper Experiences" is the forum where one can detail his situation. There are both positive reports and negative.
