From what I have seen others say about "gate keeping" in general...the $100 per day is for all day, and I am talking 24 hour days. If it is a "couple", then one can leave, as long as one is there to restrict the traffic coming in, and monitor traffic leaving. Sometimes two couples will share a week's worth of gate keeping...each on for 3 1/2 days at a time. Again, I have no experience, but that is what I have seen others say.

That is a sucker bet. Watch a gate 24/7 for $100.00 NO HOOKUPS that dud is cheating you out of $280.00. Gate Guards gets electric, sewer, water, propane all lights and bells. When you open a gate and log in 75-100 trucks a day and then open the gate and log them out it is not boring. And yes it is 24/7 for up to 2 years. Not everyone is mentally capable for this type of work but don't belittle those that are.

Don't holler at those that belittle the job, as it means less competition for those that do. this particular offer is way low, both the no hook ups and the wage. Lets just say we get more, much more than he is offering.

I talked to 2 gate keepers in the RGV today. They both said they were making $100/day and had full hook ups. I'm wondering if the pay is better in west Texas where there are more jobs than workers.

Other than the pathetic offer mentioned by the OP, does anyone know where to find the "real" gatekeeper postings? Being somewhat of a loner anyway, I believe this is something I could handle for a while as long as I could get to town once in awhile for supplies. Thanks

When I eventually get to that rocker on the porch, I want to talk about the things I've done rather than those I wish I had.

The $100/day seems like the standard rate for this "job". The confusion lies in the fact that it's been said these are usually the remote gates and it's more of a sit around doing nothing for hours at a time and 1 or 2 vehicles come.
I also have never done it but it comes up here and on Workampers.com all the time. Same companies do construction sites and such also.
