I wonder if the OP meant "for the season"?:B
We're fulltimers. The season never ends just the location.

RE: Husband or Wife who makes the decision?

I wanted it 35ft or less with a gross weight under 15,000 we got it. She wanted a W/D, she got it. I wanted a rear kitchen, we got a front kitchen. We both wanted a side bath, we got a split bath. We're both happy, we're fulltiming!

RE: Landing Leg Problem on 5th wheel trailer

I have a new 2010 Excel Winslow with Ultra-Fab front landing legs with separate switches for each leg. Today the legs quit working when I was lowering the trailer after disconnecting - they would not go up or down and I heard a distinct clicking sound about every 10 seconds for about 45 minutes. When the clicking stopped, the legs seemed to move up and down without any problem. At the time of the problem I was connected to 50 amp service with a full charge on the house batteries.
Does anyone have an idea on what happened?
Thanks in advance for any help or advice

RE: First Workamping Position

Congratulations, we're about to finish our first camp hosting position. It has been both an education and fun. No real problems, just folks out to enjoy themselves around the campfire. June storms and mosquitoes been our biggest troublemakers. Hope you find Texas to suit you plenty to see and do.

RE: Need Help with Ford 6.4

I have been looking at a 09 Ford F-350 DRW crew cab 6.4 diesel. I have heard a lot about the fuel ecomony not being very good. Do you personaly have knowledge of what these engines are getting. I pull a 5er all the time so 9-10 MPG is great mileage as far as I am concerned. If you have any good or bad experiences please share them with me.
Ken
My towing is similar to yours with fiver in sig.for 850 miles. 13.5-14 unhitched only 3500 on odometer. Heading to Florida next week 1800 towing miles should have a better handle on mileage. I'm light on the pedal so we shall see. You can have good mileage till the engine cleaning thing starts then noticeable reduction of .5 MPG.

RE: Travel trailer vs Fifth Wheel

I just don't like the walk thru bath rooms in 5'ers. that is one reason I don't have one.
I believe if you look at the present offerings of the "Fulltime" models all manufactures now offer several with separate baths.

RE: Full timing and the need to plan ahead for next move?

We made our "reservations" months ago for winter in the southeast and are presently working on summer 2011 west coast and winter 2011-12 southwest. These are all primo spots. While traveling we decide where we want to stop for the night then find what's available.

RE: How much per day do you spend.

We average around $55 a day fulltiming and eat well, but we volunteer so have no camp fees.
Our two weeks in Hawaii averaged $850.00 per day. Hope to do it again sometime.

RE: Great Workampers!

We hired two couples who responded to an ad here on the Workamping Forum. We could not have found better people anywhere! Thanks to all you folks who make this a worthwhile forum! (jo)
We're glad you post available openings, though we've been able to make our own connections you can never tell when we might need one that's offered here.

RE: When to retire?

Forced by the present economy to bail a bit sooner than planned. I really enjoyed my job but all good things must end. My skills are adaptable to volunteer positions as well as the DW's so we're going to travel and give of ourselves. I get to do things I enjoy and travel and the deposit comes on the 1st. I can live with that.

RE: Weight/Towing Related Question

The Sprinter Select Model 26BH is way more than your TV can handle.
I suggest you load the family, fuel up and get your TV weight then you can look at what you may be able to tow. Just because you have a tow rating doesn't mean you can tow that much, there's more to it than that. You have to read the small print. Tow ratings are based on a option less vehicle, a 150# driver.

RE: Carrying replacement items?

My Oster blender for Margaritas is the most important tool, I like them frozen no salt. I was going to carry a hammer but it seems everything is screwed together on the fiver. If a light bulb burns out I just take one from a light that isn't being used at the moment then put it on the shopping list. I do have a Phillips head screwdriver about the only tool I've used, need it for lens removal. Is a turkey baster a tool? I use one to fill the batteries.

RE: Dreaming

I've been around here, the forum, for years when I first thought about fulltime RV living. I'd have to admit when I first thought about getting an RV it was for vacation use short trips. It was only after reading these forums and others that I evolved that idea to fulltiming. Travel has always been high on my list of things to do and did plenty but always a vacation pace. See as much as possible then needing a vacation from my vacation when I returned. The thought of leisure travel and taking the time to soak in those places we visited caught my imagination. I started running numbers on my pension and savings, how much and when could I afford to get off the treadmill and get out on the road. What type of RV should I look, a C, an A, a fiver. Which would be best most livable for the way I wanted to travel. I went to RV shows all around the Midwest, took a Life on Wheels weekend conference. Bought books on RV living and fulltiming. Read and absorbed as much as I could to prepare and always dreaming about "that day".
So go and enjoy your dream. It can come true, mine did.

RE: Towing- On new model Pickups which is better..

After forty years of driving stick I have gone over to the free hand to hold the cell phone, big gulp or burrito without worry of need to shift. Auto's have come a long way from what they were, computers have taken over and are more adept than the best gear grinder at timing a shift to get the most out of every drop of fuel and power a engine can provide. Do manuals still have a place, probably but not enough to warrant development of new ones or maintain production of existing ones as so few are ordered on new vehicles.

RE: newb question: new truck before first trailer?

Decide on your RV choice then find a truck that will offer the pulling power and capacity to safety haul it. That's the way we did it. We did purchase the truck first but knew which models of fiver and their weight were acceptable and proceeded to search till we located one that met our approval.
Could have gone either way with 4 wheel drive, never had one before, never needed it, may not need it now. Every one available at the time we purchased had it. We'll see?
