RE: By The River RV Park in Kerrville, TX

Go about 6 miles outside of Kerrville to Ingram TX and Johnson Creek RV Resort. One of the best RV Parks we ever stay in. They are listed in the top 100 parks by Trailer Life Directory.

RE: alaska tour saver

Tour Saver is great. We order ours on line and had it to start our trip. We saved well over $700. We did a few extra things because of the savings. Our son and daughter in law took a cruise up to Alaska, and we picked them up at the cruise ship terminal. They spent a week with us and we used the tour saver book at the Kenai Princess Lodge for one free night at the lodge(with the purchase of a night). We stayed in the RV Park and they stayed in the lodge. RV Park renters can use all the amenities of the lodge. The book is a great saver. Had no problems where we used it. As a matter of fact we went to the wrong wild life tour cruise terminal and they said they would give us a two for one even though they were not in the book.

Looking for seasonal work in Branson Mo

Hi, did a search here and on Branson sites looking for a link to find part time seasonal work in Branson, but search came up empty. Looking for a job working the shows with amenities like free or low coast show tickets to other shows. We are looking at the spring-summer season.

RE: Picking out Full Timers

Full timers love Monday mornings. The RV parks are kinda empty. I like talking to the week enders as they are usually fairly local and a source of good information on things like good places to eat(very important to full timers) and visit.

RE: Lafayette, La. RV park

Red Shoes is super. A little far away but a great place. They did have a coupon on line, I believe it was pay for three nights and get two free, not sure if its still there. We used it this passed spring. Its also easy to get comped for your stay. Poches Fish N Camp is a super park not too far from Lafayette. Its a Passport America park, if you are a member. Its in Breaux Bridge LA.

RE: South Carolina to Texas in December

Texas is great. It may get a little cold, but usually warns up by noon. All things said about TX in other post are all good advise. Texas welcomes "winter Texans". A very friendly state. We winter in both TX and Fl and feel a lot more welcome in TX. I will admit Fl is a little warner, but you are only going for a few weeks. Go and enjoy Texas.

RE: Dog/Cat Washing Station

We have one in Pa, in Macungie. We did have a outside shower installed just for the dogs. But they don't like it.

RE: Update on CA State park closings?

Perhaps the state should try to step up their volunteer program. If they get enough volunteers if might save a few parks. Some state us day volunteers for their day use and historic parks. We all know about the volunteer park host but volunteers could do much more. I'm not sure how CA uses volunteers but maybe if more people get involved it may help.

Starting our 5th year

Wow where did the time go. Sept. starts our 5th year of full timing. Funny after retiring we now have less time to do things then when we worked. We are always busy. How did we manage in our former life working 50-80 hours a week(we had a business). Our kids keep asking "what keeps you so busy"? Well it's like this, and here is where we have a hard time trying to recount what we did this week, or for that matter what we did this morning. Does anybody else have this problem? And thank God for cell phones, so we can check and see what day it is.

Milage plus roads we liked from our 3 month trip

We stayed in 31 different RV parks in Alaska and Canada. We started this trip on Feb 1st from Florida. But we consider our jumping off point from Ingram Texas on 5/4/09. From TX back to the Border in WA state we traveled 11564 total miles, towing 7640 miles. We traveled 9319 miles from our crossing the border in MT to the border in WA.,towing for 6044 miles. We crossed the border in WA on 8/10/09. The question has been asked several times, "What was the most scenic road on your trip"? We can't just choose one, here is a list of some of the roads we really enjoyed and liked. We tried to list in the order we traveled them. Note they are not all in Alaska. These may be different then others, but these are our choices. The Icefield Parkway Ak Hwy from FT. Nelson to Watson Lake Klondike Hwy from Carcross to Skagway Klondike Hwy from Whitehorse to Dawson City Top of the World Hwy from Dawson City to Chicken(part gravel) Roads in Denali Nat. Pk., note some by bus only Seward Hwy from south of Anchorage(Turnagain Arm) to Portage Whittier/Portage Glacier access road Sterling Hwy from Cooper Landing to Sterling then from Anchor Point to Homer Palmer Fishhook Rd. to Hatcher Pass Richardson Hwy from Copper Center to Valdez Haines Hwy from Haines Jct to Haines Cassiar Hwy from Good hope Lake to Stewart/Hyder access road Steward/Hyder access road(37a) Gravel road from Hyder to Salmon glacier In Lower BC-Route 8 from Spences Bridge to Merritt As you can see their aren't to many we didn't like. The scenery is awesome everywhere you look. I'm sure we missed some. Just go and enjoy. See RV Parks and photo’s and trip blog at http://www.bobandlindasrvtravels.blogspot.com/

List of RV Parks with photo,s from our 3 month trip

This is a list of RV parks with photo's of each park from our 3 month trip. They can be seen here http://www.bobandlindasrvtravels.blogspot.com/ Click on the photo's to enlarge. The comments are our opinion, and may differ from others. Sorry we have no photo for Rainey Creek municipal park in Stewart BC. There we had a back in site with 30 amp electric. They have a water fill and the dump is about a mile away in town, which is free. The site was $20. In Soldotna we stayed at Fred Meyer. They allow RV parking for 3 nights. They have a water fill and a dump. This was very busy. We stayed only one night as the parks right around there were full, because this was the hight of the Salmon run in the area. All this is free at Fred's. The night we stayed there were 30-40 RV's in the lot. Note some of the photo's went into the blog archives

RE: Top of World road condition question

We did the TOW about a month ago. We would NOT do it again. From the border to Chicken the road is rough. We traveled many areas at 10 mph. We saw one 5th wheel and truck in a ditch waiting for a tow. A MH with a small whole in his radiator and overheating. We broke a spring shackle on the 5er and took a chunk down to the cords out of a truck tire. All in all probably 100 to 200 rv's, or maybe more traveled that day. Many didn't have a problem. But all that shaking can't do them any good. We did encounter 2 road graders that where working on the road. The problem was they turned up a lot of bigger rocks. People say the road is gravel. Its more dirt them gravel. I know I'll get some flack from people who disagree with me, but this is my opinion. From the ferry to the US border the road was good. The views where the greatest. We did encounter 2 tour buses in a narrow area of the road and one just missed our mirror. The other bus did stop and let us pass. Good luck if you do it and enjoy the view.

Payback for all the good info we received here

Hi, below is our blog address. We are in Dawson City now and will be heading to Chicken AK tomorrow. We have received so much good information here that we want to share our trip and hopefully help someone else. We are full time RV'er and left FL on Feb 1st. We will update when we can. We do have wifi here in Dawson but it is very slow. We found this to be a little problem keeping in touch as we did 9 days of dry camping here in Canada and had no wifi. We will do our best, you can PM me if you have some questions. I will get back to you as soon as I can. We will be in AK till about the 1st of Sept. Thanks to all the posters in the past. We still keep reading current post as there is always good info out there. If interested here is our address http://www.bobandlindasrvtravels.blogspot.com/

RE: Who is driving to Alaska this summer?

We left FL on the 1st of Feb staying south. We are now in Ingram TX and plan on leaving here on May 4th. We are taking our time and plan on being in Dawson Creek about the 15-20th of May. We do have a Blog and will post it here. This is so we can give back after getting so much good information on this site. See you on the road.
