RE: D.C., Gettysburg, Virginia Beach camping suggestions

Haven't stayed in the DC area but the others we do often. Assateague State Park is our September trip. We reserve so we can get a site in the one loop, H, with electric hook-ups. Showers are nice with plenty of hot water. Easy access dump station, but dump the night before you leave in case there is a line to get out. We like to walk around and see the horses. In Lancaster we stay at Old Mill Stream on RT 30. This is our after Thanksgiving destination. It is a nice quiet park along a stream, across from an Amish farm. Even though it is off of busy route 30 we have never had a complaint about noise as the campground is set back off the road and you can't see it from the highway. We do Gettysburg twice a year for a Bluegrass Festival at Granite Hill Campground which is just south of town on Rt. 116. Have been to the area so many times I don't do the history stuff anymore but DH always goes into town and New Oxford to visit the antique shops. Nice Irish pub/bar/restaurant that we always go to. We like visitnig all of these areas. Enjoy your trip.

RE: RV'rs who travel primarily to Bluegrass Festivals

We attend the Bluegrass Festival at Granite Hill Campground, Gettysburg, PA twice a year. We have seen everyone from Bill Monroe to Ricky Skaggs and other great bands, Seldom Scene, Dry Branch Fire Squad, Cherryholmes. The Navy Bluegrass Band is great. The festivals are held in mid-May, 13 to 16, 2010, and late August, 19 to 22, 2010. We arrive on the Sunday before the music starts, do some Civil War looking things and then relax and listen to the music. May can get cold at night and August can be hot but it is worth the weather for the music.

RE: Cornbread disaster

I use Marie Callender also. Even the low fat mix is moist and holds its shape for cutting and buttering.

RE: Thanksgiving dinner

Not camping but will be staying in MH in parent's driveway. There will be 40 for dinner this year. Menu!!! Fresh fruit salad, Italian Wedding soup, Manicotti, braccioles, meatballs, sausage, turkey with all of the fixings, home baked bread, and lots of desserts. We do 6 birthdays including my Father's 87th and numerous other celebrations. Everyone brings a course and we start eating around 2 and take breaks between courses and for football. This size group happens every other year when the third and fourth generations are "here" rather than with the other side. Friday we head to Lancaster,PA for shopping and a last trip before we winterize.

RE: Summer 2010: Gettysburg, D.C., Assateague, Shenandoah

When you are sure of dates try to get a loop H site in the Assateague State Park. It is the only loop with electric in the park. The bath houses in the state park are less rustic than those in the National park. If you need full hook-ups check Frontiertown.

RE: Where do you store your outside rug/mat?

If it is wet, put it in the shower until you can lay it out to dry.

RE: new york city

We are in Springsteen country and I would guess you are going to see Springsteen and the last concert in Giant's Stadium. We saw him on the 3rd, was supposed to be the last concert! Word has it that he has already paid the fine, for the 9th, for an event that runs past the 12:30AM deadline and Bon Jovi and Eric Clapton will be there. I am so jealous, my son and his wife, who asked if we wanted to go but we said no we'll see him on the 3rd, will be there, we will be watching the grandsons. I know you will see a great show, enjoy!

RE: H2O Assateague State Park

Thanks for the replies. One would think that with as often as we are there we would have noticed where the potable water is!

H2O Assateague State Park

Heading to Assateague State Park on Monday. The last couple of times we have gone from a campground in Cape May, across on the ferry, then the short ride to the park. This time we are going from home, adding about three hours of driving to the trip. Has anyone ever filled up with fresh water in the park as opposed to traveling with a full fresh water tank? We are in the H loop so I know where the bathhouse and dump station are but not sure where in the park to fill with fresh water. Thanks.

RE: Philadelphia camping

I grew up in that area. Timberlane is your best bet, close to 295 with easy in and out of Philly.

RE: hotels near amish country and hershey for rv show

The Hershey Lodge has an indoor pool. There is also a motel east of Lancster, near the outlets, that looks like a riverboat and has an indoor pool.

RE: Where's everyone camping for Thanksgiving?

Parents in South Jersey for an Italian Turkey Day. Then to Old Mill Stream in Lancaster, PA for the rest of the weekend into Monday. Do some Christmas shopping at the outlets and just relax before coming home and winterizing.

RE: Fall Camping Around New Jersey

Going west we like Old Mill Stream Campground in Lancaster, PA. Going south we go to Assateague State Park, south of Ocean City, MD. They have one loop, H, with electric hook-ups and nice bathhouses and an easy use dump site.

RE: Travelling the 1st two weeks of Nov

There are a number of KOAs on 95. Check their web site. We had no problems staying in KOAs when we went down in Feb, so they should be open in Nov. Have a great trip.

RE: THE Best Banana Pudding Recipe Ever

How many of the individual servings did the recipe make? It sounds delicious and like something I could use this weekend.

RE: Best 'kind' of vehicle to tow behind RV?

When we bought a new larger MH in 2001, we decided we needed a tow vehicle. As it happens DH was looking to replace his car. We looked for an automatic that could be towed 4 down, was comfortable for him to drive to work and settled on a 2001 Chevy Malibu. It has served us well, given us no problems and still drives like new, except for the fact that after all these years of him driving the driver's seat is molded to him and I really don't like to drive the car. But, I do all of the MH driving, so when we arrive and go out and about, it is his turn!

RE: Wireless Internet

Using Verizon air card right now in Gettysburg, PA. So much better than any of the campground WiFi we have/had tried to use.

RE: Floor plan database

Does your DW drive the MH? We had a 23 ft Jamboree Rallye with the rear queen bed that was also the dining table u-shaped booth. I drove that and now drive our 32 ft Four Winds Chateau class C. Granted when you are outside it looks more imposing, but the difference in space inside makes it all worth while. What I am getting at, is if she does not do any of the driving, she should look at how much more space you get inside with a few more feet outside.

RE: Suggestions for cg's between Hilton Head and NJ

We like Assateague State Park. They have one loop with electric hook ups, Loop H, the rest have no hooks up and the bathhouses are nice. From there you can visit Berlin, MD and Ocean City, MD. Then take the Cape May Lewes Ferry into NJ and spend some time in Cape May, if there any of the campgrounds are open.

RE: Falmouth Mass to Assateague to Virgina Beach

We take the Cape May Lewes Ferry to DE and all we have to do is turn off the propane while on the boat. If you are talking about the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, you have to turn off your propane to go thru there also. I don't know about carrying a container of gasoline. You may want to check their web site and/or give them a call.
