RE: Vancouver Island late September.Reservations needed?

We were there in mid-July and although we had reservations, the place seemed pretty empty. We saw a lot of empty spaces available.

RE: Pacific NW great camp areas for kids

It's almost fall - winter. Head for the book store and purchase several good camping guides. A good Washington State Park book would be a must read for you. After that, go exploring. Have fun.

RE: Tacoma RV Center..Anyone Purchased From Them

I bought my first TT there in 1987. When I was in the market for my current rig, I found that they were one of only two Cougar dealers in Western Washington. I couldn't get them to dicker with me. I went to the dealer in Burlington and beat Tacoma's best offer by just over $7,000. Since then I have taken my new FW back to them for warranty service, and was very satisfied with the service that I received. They were good about chasing down parts.

RE: Les Schwab--can't say enough!

Any business that trains their people to quickly (sometimes on the run) greet you in the parking lot, and then professionally handle my sale tends to get my return business. The only reason that Les Schwab tires are not on 4th vehicle, is because I have yet to wear out the factory installed tires yet!

RE: all on head lights

You do have the ability to dim these lights don't you? It is not a pleasure approaching a vehicle with bright lights on, or having them behind you.

Dodge Tranny-Torque Converter Issues - Revisited

A week or so ago I posted a thread stating that I was having problems with my 06 Dodge CTD. Specifically, when cold, after starting up and putting it in gear, the engine would rev, but the truck would not move. If I put it in neutral, or drive and waited 20-30 seconds, then it would drive as it should...all day long. I received two very good replies indicating that I probably had a bad valve in the torque converter. My other problem was that while I only have 26,900 miles on the truck, the warranty expired on March 1st of this year.
Fearing the worst, yesterday I took the truck to the only Dodge dealer in Pierce County, WA. I casually mentioned that it was only just out of warranty, and would like some help. Later in the day the service writer called me back telling me that the repair would require replacing the "front end pump", and the torque converter itself. He then went on to tell me that he really did not know why the torque converter needed replacement, but that Chrysler wanted them to replace it. He continued telling me that as a gesture of "good will" my total cost for the repair/replacement would be the standard $100 deductible, and that Chrysler was picking up the remainder of the $2200 tab. Needless to say, I came away with a warm fuzzy feeling. Will I throw some more business towards that dealer? Yep. :B

Dodge Tranny / Torque Converter Problem

My TV is a 2006 Dodge 2500 CTD 2X4. It went into service on March 1st, 2006, and I currently have 26,600 miles on it. I'm now finding that when I first start it in the morning (after sitting all night)when I put it in gear the engine revs, but the truck doesn't move. After 20 to 40 seconds, the truck will then move forward, and it's fine for the rest of the day. This includes towing. No problems there.
When I called the local Dodge dealer the service writer indicated that this is not an uncommon problem, and mentioned that there are a couple of valves in the torque converter that could be gunked up or just not working properly. He says that while I'm technically out of warranty on this, "he might be able to do something for me" due to the milage and the fact that I'm only a couple of months out of warranty.
Anyone out there with similar problems? Is this going to be a major hit on my wallet?

RE: keystone and northwood

I've had no problems with my 06 Cougar, and would make the same purchase again. Are there better trailers out there? Sure, but for the money I spent, and the way that it use it, I'm one happy camper.

RE: Canadian Duties on Food

We entered Canada at Blaine on July 27th, and the Canadian customs people never even asked about food. Yesterday returning back to the U.S. we made the mistake of telling the U.S. Customs and Border Protection folks that we had one nectarine and one banana left in the trailer. That got us searched! They really did not like the dog food that we had placed in a container rather than the original packaging! In the end, we ended up keeping everything, but with a 45 minute delay. Oh well!

Sure wish that I had the time to do this. Fort Worden is a great place, and Port Townsend nearby is worth the visit.

RE: BC to Hemet CA

The OP stated that he would be starting on December 1st. Altitudes on Hwy 97 in Central Oregon are at least 3000 feet and higher. Read in here a good chance of compact snow and ice on the roadways. Same with the mountainous areas of Hwy 395. For that time of year, I-5 is the safest route to take. Avoid I-5 in the Seattle area. Take I-405 to bypass Seattle, and do so only during non-commute hours.

RE: Oregon Mountains

I've done that route. As Dee indicated it isn't a highway. If I drive similar roads I carry a chainsaw and a 20' "logging" chain, just in case. Don't think I'd do it with a trailer.
I'd listen to those who live in the area. Someone else may have been lucky...once.

RE: Eastern Oregon, A Ramblin Journey - Planning

Here's a better route than going to Chiloquin from Lakeview. Take Hwy 31 instead. This takes you through the "Oregon Outback." The route is good, and I've towed over it several times. No problem. If you can find a way to go further east than John Day, like to Sumpter, IMHO it would be worth the time. Also, a day trip to the Hart Mountain Antelope Refuge will give you a taste of a real high plateau desert.

RE: Collier Memorial St Park OR

Mid week, early in the afternoon should not be a problem. They don't take reservations there because it really is not a "destination" park. Enjoy the stay, we have the two times we used it as an overnighter.

RE: Traveling to Vancouver

Vancouver (the older one) is right across the Columbia River from Portland OR. We allow guns here and the commute isn't bad either.
Not only that, you don't need to show a passport, which you will need to do going into and out of Canada, plus you avoid the LONG LINES OF CARS.

RE: Lassen National Park

I did it last year with my 5vr (by mistake) and don't think that I would ever do it again. The roadway was under construction at the time, but still was very narrow, very crooked with big drop offs on my side of the road. Also, while we only checked one CG, we did not see any spots that was big enough for our rig, which is about the same size as yours. We stayed at the KOA in Shingletown, west of the park, and thought it to be very good. IMHO I cannot recommend the roadway. Good luck finding the right sized camp space.
