RE: Water System Sanitizing

I would highly recommend this stuff:
Star-San
I use it on my wine and brew making gear as well. It is 100% safe to drink and you do not have to worry about rinsing. It leaves behind no funny taste or residue. This is way better than bleach or idophor. Yes, it is a little more expensive than using bleach but you do not need to fill your water tank full. Put 5 gallons or enough that you can fill all your lines and faucet. It is great stuff.

RE: It's official...well almost

Congrats on the new trailer! I am another one originally from Green Bay! Moved to Colorado in 1996 after college. I love it out here and don't think I could move back. Good Luck with your trailer.

RE: Roo bunkend door seal kit

If you are in the least bit handy, I would recommend doing this yourself so you can see how things are. I did mine a little different from the instructions. I cut the dam at the bunk door and folded it back over the cabinet. Then I replaced all the components on the door like the instructions show. I then layed the new dam over the old dam that was folded back and caulked and put the trim piece and nailed it. I did it this way so the old dam still protects the cabinet wood, otherwise water could still get to it and cause it to swell and you would not know it because it is under the dam. The hardest part of the whole thing is lining the new door and hinge up. The new hinge they supply does not match the holes of the old one so you need to make new holes. I got it to within about 1/8" side to side and said it was good enough.

They did not send me the instructions. There is a link to a guy that did have them that I posted in another thread. Let me see if I can dig it up.

RE: Roo bunkend door seal kit

There are more than just new seals with the kit. It also comes with the new U-channel piece, hinge, and rubber dam. I replaced all mine with the new kit and I can tell you even though I had issues with water coming in on the corners, when I removed the u-channel, I could see water had been getting in there. Upon closer inspection, the way it was put together I can see why. Even if you dont have water issues I bet almost all of these are allowing water up in u-channel from between the dam and u channel. The way it was put together is like this, u-channel stapled to the bunk door, rubber dam stapled, then hinge screwed. Well there was no caulk or butyl tape between the dam and the u-channel and that allowed moisture to get in there and up through the staples. Most of the staples were rusted and the very lower edge of the bunk door was starting to delam. The way the new set is done is you put the rubber dam over the end of the bunk and install the u-channel over that. I put a good bunch of caulk between the dam and u-channel. Then you attach the hing with caulk and screws. So there is no staples in this setup. I think it is a much better setup. For those of you that have not done the upgrade I would seriously think about it after what I saw when I pulled that door apart. Again, I only had slight water intrusion in the lower corners and would have never saw that water was getting inside the bunk door from the bottom.

RE: GPS

Look at the Delorme PN-40. I had the PN-20 and upgraded to the PN-40 and love it. Color topo maps and satellite photos. Comes with Topo 8 software. Check amazon for the best price. I use mine for hunting and ATVing. Lots of nice features on it.

RE: Roo Bunk End Field Repair Kit Pictures or DVD instruction???

Did you have the update done? I started doing my own last night and the kit is a little different than the one shown. The outside seal is now white instead of black. The flat rubber seal that goes in the channel was not long enough to fold over, it was just long enough. Also the hinge only had butyl tape on one side and was a different hinge from the original, so you had to drill all new holes. Also it did not come with the wood trim piece to put over the seal. It is not too hard to do, but no instructions came with it so I used the one above to guide me. The hardest part was figuring how to align the door hing on the trailer frame. I got it to within 1/8" side to side so figured it was good enough. My original side seals are still shorter than they should be, so there is still a gap between the bottom seal and side. Overall, this approach is better than what they originally had, but is still not quite great. I would like to get more of the big seal material. Does anyone know what it is or who makes it?

RE: A/C vs. generator at 10,000 ft...who would win?

Hey, you are right, don't worry about the A/C at 10k feet. I live at 9k feet and don't need an A/C for the house. My Champion 3500 watt RV generator will run my 13.5k btu A/C no problem here at the house. In fact I just put in a bigger hard start cap in it tonight and now the generator hardly flinches when it is turned on. I camped at 10,200 feet last weekend and had the friggen heat on...

RE: Magna 3000 Watt Portable Inverter Generator

I have been keeping my eye on one of the Magna 3000's with electric and remote start. There are a lot of these sold on ebay and they seem to have good comments about them. I know Wasatch Rendezvous sells these and stocks the parts for them. If the price point drops a little more I think I will be in for one.

RE: towing with toyota tundras

Having owned both an 03 and an 07, I would say go for the newer one. I still have my 07 and it is a crewmax with the 5.7L and I just added the TRD supercharger to it. The truck is now 504HP and 550 ft/lbs of TQ. I have a 232 which it pulled just fine before. Now with the supercharger it is like having a diesel. Last trip out the tach never went above 3500 RPM, it just keeps pulling. I love this truck and the family loves the room inside.

RE: RVW reputation?

The extended warranty info from FR will be in your packet they give you. They didn't tell me a lick about it and by the time I noticed the paper I couldn't get it because you have like 10 days to respond to it. They did try to push me to the expensive one, but chose not to. Also, I paid for my trailer in full up front and they really wanted me to finance it through them. I think you will find that at about any dealer however. If I did it again I would go through them all over again.

RE: RVW reputation?

yep, another one here satisfied with RVW. I have had no problems with my ROO except a fan and CO detector. All were replaced within a week. I was able to get the seal upgrade from FR and will be doing that myself before the season is over. From what I gather RVW has a bunch of servicing dealers that they work with nation wide. You need to contact them when you have an issue and they tell you who to bring it to. Luckily I have not had to do this.

RE: Boats?? Who's got one?

Well I stopped by Bass Pro today to look at them and the Tahoes look ok. To me they seem a bit higher priced for what you are getting. Of course they didn't have the one I was interested in and tried to convince me I needed the next one up that they had. The only deal they had going on was $1k off msrp. Didn't seem like a great deal on an already over priced boat. They were friendly and helped me learn some about boats, I'll give them that. I have also been reading about many quality issues with the Tahoes.
I also been looking at the Bayliners. They seem like they have a pretty good reputation and seem to be a better bang for your buck. I stopped at the one and only local Bayliner dealer, who happens to be an RV dealer as well, and lets just say I was not impressed by the dealer. They didn't seem too interested in selling me a boat. They had 2 new Bayliners left(and 08 and 09) and they were not marked down much at all. He told me this is all we have left and wont get anything more til next year and you wont find a better deal than this.
Yesterday I talked to the local Sea Doo dealer and was looking at that Challenger 180 boat. Of course they didn't have any and tried to push me to the one boat he had in stock. Said he could order me one in September, but couldn't give me a price.
So, so far I am getting pretty frustrated on the dealers around here. I will keep looking and doing more research and maybe looking at some dealers a little further away. I appreciate all the good info you guys have been writing. I am starting to feel a little more knowledgeable about boats now. The search continues....

It will be used on the various freshwater lakes and reservoirs of Colorado. For passengers, it would be myself and my wife and the 2 kids. Maybe have my folks along sometimes.

Boats?? Who's got one?

I thought I would throw this out there. I am looking around to maybe get a boat for fishing and some fun for my family. I have never owned a boat in my life. I am currently looking at the Tahoe Sport and Fish series at Bass Pro and the Sport and Fish series from Bayliner. Does anybody have one of these boats? Any suggestions on other brands I should be looking at? Is there a forum for Boats like RV.net? I am trying to do as much research as possible and maybe do something this fall. I have never felt this dumb looking at something. haha. I would like to stay <$20k. Any help and guidance is very much appreciated.

RE: Camping with babies...little babies.

Absolutely go for it. I took my first son camping he was 2 months old. I have a Roo 232 and we has a pack-n-play in there that he slept in. He did fine and liked being there. Our second little guy came around 13 months(yep) later... and we took him camping when he was only a month old. Now they are 2 and 1 and love to camp. I would not think twice about doing it all over again. Find a trailer that has enough room to setup a pack-n-play and I think you will be just fine. The kids sleep better in the trailer then they do at home!
