RE: 2 pictures Bay Area camping

It does look like Big Basin, but I think it's Uvas Canyon Park.
Did the sign in the pic, Granuja Falls, give it away? ;)

RE: Any more sway going from 265's to 285/295's

Taller sidewalls can cause more sway, but if you are also going up in load rating, you may not notice the difference. That's why cars change to low profile tires. Have you thought about 19.5s or simply swapping out your gearing?

RE: Most bang for your buck: Sway Bars or Shocks?

vern96, it depends, can you say more about your truck/rig and current setup? Some trucks come with sway bars. Just adding more tire pressure can help sway.

RE: Battery wizard charger ?

I think it depends on the inverter/charger you have in your camper. Some are very good...others, not so much. Find the brand/model of what your camper has and then do some searches.

I'd replace those, too.

RE: 19.5" F/G Rated Tire Pressures

I along with many of you have read the stories of beads coming loose on 19.5s due to airing down. I don't know what that minimum is.
Unloaded even my Ford SC long wheelbase 6.0 is less than 8000 lbs. I'm guessing that is at most 5000 on the front two tires or about 2500 which can be covered by fairly low pressure.
The charts don't even go down to 2500 lbs for 19.5s. BTW, the G rated tire charts aren't the same as the C/D/E tires. My guess is that besides the bead setting, the G tire will hold more weight than the C/D/E based on how the charts work for more capacity at less pressure with the G/H tires. In any case, I think it would be a guess what pressure is required at a minimum.

RE: 19.5" F/G Rated Tire Pressures

I haven't gone below 50, but my tire dealer delivered the truck with 60 lbs in the tires. I guess they think that's the minimum.

RE: Alternative Floorplans

I'm not sure what you mean by entertainment center, but there are many tv mounts that can rotate and the dvd/stereo/cd could be anywhere. I'm thinking strongly about replacing my dinette with either reclining sofa or reclining chairs.

RE: Tailgate down or off???

You can get a cargo net/webbing to replace the tailgate.

RE: Tailgate down or off???

Congrats!
I think you are looking at this the wrong way. What do you gain by leaving the tailgate on?
Anyway, I think loading will be slightly harder since the tailgate will be angling up as you try to back the truck under the camper. If trucks were level, that wouldn't be a concern.
If you accidentally put 2500 lbs on the tailgate, you'll probably mess the tailgate up.

RE: Structural Failure - 2008 Adventurer 106 Truck Camper

We have seen a few people systematically tear their camper apart, week by week, day by day... posting pictures... with no buy back... (think smoothtop)...
That's a bad example because smoothetop's use damaged his camper which is different than a fundamental manufacturering mistake. There was no question after the facts came to light that smoothetop's camper was clearly operating outside of expected design.
Whether you disagree with that or not, it is clear that the Adventurer in this thread was assembled incorrectly, and never met the manufacturer specs.
It's similar to an engine falling out of a car because the bolts weren't in the engine mounts from the factory. BTW, that is true story that happened to a friend 20 years ago. :)

RE: Structural Failure - 2008 Adventurer 106 Truck Camper

I have to agree that you might be better off just to go get your camper. I assume you liked the camper other than it having issues. Assuming it is repaired, you can go enjoy it, and enjoy Spring. Otherwise, you may be without a camper for the prime time of the year.

RE: Structural Failure - 2008 Adventurer 106 Truck Camper

In the US there is a lemon law which I think your's qualifies after multiple attempts to fix the same issue. Perhaps, there is something similar in Canada. I don't see this as a dealer issue.

RE: More 19.5" wheel questions

Chevy engineers probably would tell you they didn't do everything they could have done due to a variety of factors like price. You do need to make sure the tires don't touch on your dually.
I'd probably just leave it alone.

RE: First long trip

Sounds like a nice trip. Many TVs by default show only the lower channels, 2-13. So, it should be a TV setup option.

RE: More 19.5" wheel questions

19.5s don't have to be larger by much although Chevy's have relatively small wheels compared to Fords. In my case, my 19.5s were slightly larger and that made my speedo dead on. As was stated, the tire outside diameter is the number that matters.
If you have a GPS, you should check, but I bet your speedometer is reporting higher than actual speed.
Your diesel should handle the extra torgue required with no issues.

RE: Mounting generator on a ladder?

I wouldn't mount it on a ladder. I've seen ladders loose on a variety of RVs. I have to think they don't need any help to get loose.

RE: Replacing the Dinette with a recliner or couch

Replacing dinette with couch
This is a great conversion.
Most of us probably only have at most two people in our campers on a regular basis. I like this much better than the command seating.
By rotating my tv, I could see it from the sofa in both positions which would be much better than recliners that are face to face. I do wonder about the strength of the slide without the dinette boxes, but I think that's probably not really an issue since Host also sells slides with sofas.
