RE: Is this your truck?

Some guys have to try to brag and enhance their image by using huge Prosthesis Pipes (also known as "PP"), but Ford owners don't have to brag about their bigger exhaust pipes!

RE: Fleas in my trailer

Google Diatomaceous Earth, and/or search here on RV.Net. It's safe for people and dogs, eliminates fleas and eggs, as well as ants, cockroaches, etc. So safe it can be used as a dewormer in people, horses and dogs/cats. Make sure to buy the pure stuff at a pharmacy, not the version sold as a swimming pool filter media.
It works by clogging up the fleas breathing holes, and gets inside their body armor, and sucks the moisture from their bodies...which brings them to a screeching halt!

RE: 5ver vs. TT for those that have had both

We've had both, 6 Jayco TT's of various types including pop-ups and bigger TT's. and now our current Jayco JayFlight 5er. We were really pleasantly surprised at the big differences in 5er vs TT!
The 5er has more room per the length than a bumper pull, more interior volume, much more exterior compartment storage space, and yes pulls better than a TT. You'll get no 'push' or sway when passed by a big rig, more stable in the wind, tracks better, once you get used to the "backing up" properties, you'll love the maneuverability.
And if you've ever seen a big semi truck back into a tight slot between 2 other trucks at a loading dock, you've seen the ease at which it is accomplished!
A 5er is easier to hitch/unhitch, easier and quicker to set up and take down, and on the rear of a capable truck, is actually fun to tow! A F350 Diesel SRW truck should be able to handle the 5er you want, and a dually would be a more stable platform for a heavy trailer.
The PullRite trailer hitch, the Hensley and the ProPride are designed to beat the law of physics of towing a travel trailer. They actually give a TT the capability to handle in a way similar to a 5th wheel trailer, by artificially moving the towing swivel point to a virtual point under or near the tow vehicles rear axle. The 5er system actually DOES have the pivot point over the rear axle of the tow vehicle! And thus does it better! Good luck!

RE: 95 Ford F 350 7.3 Power Stroke Starting Advice

I hope you didn't run your tank dry!
These posts are DieselStop.com on the 7.3 priming steps..."If its a electronic 7.3 (powerstroke) you just crank it for awhile, the injectors will fire and pass out any air in the rails. However, if any work has been done on the HEUI oil system (this helps fire the injectors), you need to open up the oil rail plugs on both heads and crank until oil comes out, then close them so pressure can build up so the injectors can fire. If this is a mechanical 7.3 you simply loosen all injector fuel lines at the injectors and crank until fuel comes out, then tighten the lines back."
"There will be a schrader valve in the filter head. Just push it in while your wife is cranking the starter. Have her crank for 15 seconds and then wait 2-3 minutes between cranks. When you see fuel, the truck will probably start but stumble for a bit while the air is worked out of the system. It may take a while, so be patient."
Hope it helps!

RE: Buying a Fifth wheel

You might consider a nice TT along the same length and weight as the 5er you are considering. You'll have a much better road experience! Unfortunately, you will quickly exceed the rated bed load with a fiver of that weight, despite what the dealer and manufacturer will tell you. Overloading the rear axle, and also the front axle of that poor F150, and the actual towing experience will negate any fun you would have actually camping!

RE: Excellent quality class C (or B) recommendations?

Lazy Daze has been building Class C motorhomes for almost 60 years, the same family. And they make just Class C motorhomes. One at a time, to your order...in a small 60 year old factory in Pomona/Montclair California. The prices are clearly listed on their website. And no, you don't have to pay a fortune, between $80,000 and $100,000 including most options, depending on model.Lazy Daze RV
You go into the show room (Lazy Daze are only sold factory direct), look at all the models parked indoors, spend all the time you like, with a guy who helps build them there to answer questions. 9 Floor plans, 4 are 24 feet, 3 are 27 feet and two are 31 feet. They are built on Ford F450 Chassis, and one 32 foot model built on the Kodiak Gas C5500 chassis.
Prices are reasonable for a brand new RV with a brass tag on it with "Built by Lazy Daze for (your name here!) tag on it! But it's like Henry Ford said, you can have any Lazy Daze built with any options available, but no slide outs! You won't miss it, as the floor plans optimise space, and the huge (really) and numerous dark tinted windows make the interior really feel open! 1 1/2" block insulation, and insulated thermal pane tinted windows.
The exterior is and always has been big sheets of thick, smooth aircraft grade aluminum, in big panels that can be replaced easily if damaged...with a one piece aluminum roof. Painted with 2 part aircraft polymer high gloss paint, with the famous and easily recognisable Lazy Daze only exterior paint job!
Great, well made, hand made non-assembly line manufacturing, lots of history, great bunch of folks! My Dad had an bought new 1976 Lazy Daze, loved it till he dies a few years ago, that Lazy Daze was still going strong, no leaks, tight body and chassis, still worth a lot of money! Check out their re-sale value in NADA and on RVTrader.com, and Google Lazy Daze Owners for more info! These owners are fanatics of Lazy Daze! :B
Good luck in your search!

RE: Back Seat Passenger Comfort-Dodge Quad Cab vs. Ford Crew Cab

Ford vs Dodge Mega Cab- 1.4" more rear headroom, 1" more rear shoulder room, 2" more rear hip room, 5.1" more rear leg room. Also I believe Ford has a flatter floor and more "behind the seat back" storage.

RE: Diesel Noise

A diesel engine can make 137 different sounds while running, per Perkins Diesel who have ben making diesels for 75 years. Some of the words used to describe a diesel engine's sounds-rattles, squeeks, moans, hissing, chirps, clatter, thumping. My 6.0 PSD has been chirping very slightly since new...90,000 miles without issues. I only hear it when the hood is open while running. As Alfred E. Newman would say..."What, me worry!"
This likely doesn't directly apply, but may be of interest.
"Noisy Duramax Diesel… Some may question why the
owner of a rattling and compression knocking diesel
truck would complain about a minor belt chirp or squeal.
Accessory drive belt noises involving belt squeal, squeaks
and chirps have plagued the 2004–2005 Chevrolet
Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks fitted with the 6.6L
Duramax diesel engine. The condition occurs during a
cold start-up, and may continue until the engine reaches
its normal operating temperature.
For a belt noise condition, the first check should involve
a belt-to-pulley alignment check. Verify that the power
steering pump pulley is pressed onto the pump shaft in
the proper position. While the pulley should be flush
with the end of the pump shaft, it can be repositioned on
the shaft to achieve the proper belt alignment. The pulley
to shaft position variance should not exceed 0.039 inch
from the end of the pump shaft (see Fig.1).
TROUBLESHOOTING BELT NOISE
Installing a Second Belt Is Not the Solution
Some of the mentioned
trucks produced prior to
June 2004 may have an
AC compressor/power
steering pump mounting
bracket and rear power
steering mounting bracket
machined slightly out
of spec, resulting in a
misaligned power steering
pump. If this condition is
present, the drive belt will
be out of alignment with
the fan pulley, resulting in a chirping noise. When the
belt leaves the fan pulley, it will not be in alignment with
the crankshaft pulley, creating the belt noise condition. A
revised bracket is available from GM for those vehicles
produced prior to June 2004.
Vehicles produced after June 2004 have the revised
AC/power steering pump mounting bracket. The rear
power steering mounting bracket on all vehicles prior to
and after the mentioned production date may require a
modification. This modification involves drilling larger
holes into the rear mounting bracket to ensure proper
alignment when installing the mounting bolts. GM TSB 05-
06-01-018 illustrates the proper procedure and necessary
mounting bracket part number, where applicable.
Be aware that a belt chirp noise may be present during
engine shutdown on any diesel application, and this is a
normal condition, with no repairs necessary. The noise
condition occurs due to the high engine compression
and rapid deceleration of the crankshaft and drive belt
during engine shutdown, and this condition cannot be
eliminated." mightyautoparts.com

RE: Toronto Humane Society cruelity charges

My wife has been an Animal Control Officer and Director of Shelter Services for more than 20 years here in SoCal. For the most part, the folks who work in the Animal Services are dedicated, animal loving people...you'd have to be. But my DW tells me some stories that would explain (not excuse!) that the stress and emotional roller coaster these fine folks are subjected to in the performance of their jobs must be horrendous.
Holding completely healthy, loving and happy Dogs and Cats in your arms while it is Euthanized. Seeing the incredible cruelty otherwise normal people like you and I subject their animals to. Starvation, beatings, deliberate abuse, pet owners abandoning dogs due to the economic realities, illness due to not properly vaccinate them, lack of care...even throwing them in a river (happened last week to a pair of Chihuahua's) to get rid of their barking. One died. Dogs and cats ran over by cars, no ID tags or owner information, beyond help. Dogs locked inside of cars as the heat rises in the Southern California summer sun. Dogs deliberatly fought in a pit till death for gambling. Dogs in back yards, oozing pus filled wounds, crying in pain. Horses turned loose in rural neighborhoods, emainciated and barely able to walk due to lack of care...the owners evicted from their million dollar ranch style homes. A home owned by a woman with a 13 year old pregnant daughter and 32 dogs, 46 cats living inside. All real stuff!
There are as mentioned thousands of shelter placed animals, thriving in good homes! Animals saved from certain death, or joyfully reunited to happy owners. Be critical if you must of these people working in these Toronto Shelters, just be even more critical and angry at the thoughtless, stupid and ignorant owners that make these Animal Shelters a necessity!

RE: How to stop speedometer from turning during tow

It is illegal to tamper with, roll back or cause to read inaccurately the odometer system on a registered on-the-road motor vehicle under Federal Law Title 49 U.S.C. § 32707, which provides up to $1500 in fines.

RE: Looking for a super c

We've got a quite a few happy Jayco Seneca Kodiak and Jayco Embark Freightliner owners in our Jayco Club chapter...and we really loved the Embark...especially afer an extended "week long test drive" in a new one! We were also thinking of a Super C for our pending new Jayco purchase. But we are likely going to stay with a New Designer Series 5er and new F450 instead.
Note that the GM Kodiak/TopKick chassis will be discontinued soon.
"GM Statement Regarding Wind Down Of Medium Duty Truck Production...
After four years of working with multiple potential buyers, General Motors has decided to wind-down its medium-duty truck operations. Production of the Chevy Kodiak and GMC Topkick medium duty trucks will cease in 2009". In 2007 NaviStar International was going to buy the Kodiak line of trucks, dut no deal was made!
Best of luck, hope you find what you like!

RE: Transit connect RV?

The good thing about the Ford Transit Connect is that it has a big brother that might also come to the USA, the Ford Transit Van. Ford Transit Van Diesel Also has an efficient 4 cylinder diesel engine option. Ideal for a nice Class B.
And look here for a terrific Class B chassis that Fiat/Chrysler might be interested into bringing us here in the USA! Iveco Diesel Hi-Top vans

RE: Is a 08 to old???

Since you live (per your ID info) in Las Vegas, leaky roof probably hasn't been an issue, but check the inside ceiling for stains. The caulking on the roof is likely dried out and possibly pulling away from seams or cracking...maybe the dealer will spring for a caulking job.
I don't think freezing of the water lines would be an issue, but cold snaps could have occurred, so water system leaks need to be checked, too. The tires need to be checked for cracking and drying, and the date of manufacture should be checked. Make sure all of the appliances work, especially the chassis and roof A/C and refrigerator. Have the dealer inspect all of the roof vents, under the A/C shroud, refrigeration roof vent and the side mounted refrigerator vent, furnace and water heater vents for wasp nests.
Have the oil changed in the engine, as acids may have built up or other contaminants, and the chassis and engine batteries should be replaced with new by the dealer.
Then get it, use it and have fun in it! ;)
