RE: Happy holidays to the Pet Stop and Gang

I love the posted pics especially of the Corgi's :-) Sorry for taking so long to get back as I have been extremely busy dealing with my 83 y/o dad and his health issues. One cool thing about the holidays was we had 4 generations together in a campground Christmas week, My dad turned 83 on Christmas day and this made it all very special of all of us, especially dad. Little Shorty was in his lap almost constantly lol. Dad ate it up.:)
I am still reeling from the loss of Little Ann, it's tough. One thing I have to keep in perspective which helps some is the fact she was at the upper end of her life span (16 years) for her breed. When we take on our pets we take on a huge responsibility to be the guardian for all. Insuring they are well taken care of in all aspects. They need us to make decisions we and our families can make for us as our pets cannot make those decisions and rely on us. With Little Ann I try my best to keep in perspective that the alternative was to keep her around at the expense of my own selfishness at her suffering immensely. So every time that huge brick of guilt hits me square in the chest at 100 mph I remind myself of the fact she was in fact suffering immensly and to keep her around suffering like that would have not been the right thing to do for her or me for that matter.
It's amazing how your other pets react. They know and I've watched Shorty. You could actually see the hurt in her. She would and still does at times curl up and lay down in Ann's favorite spot. I've found we have to be cognate of of surviving pets. They shouldn't be ignored and I've tried to show Shorty lots of attention. We're both coming around and it takes time as in anything. In reality the best we can do for our pets is properly care for them and love them while we have then and make the best decisions possible for them.
Thanks again for the great pics! Love those Corgi's ;) I hope everyone had a great holiday season and may 2010 bring you good health and prosperity!!:)

RE: Happy holidays to the Pet Stop and Gang

Thanks all. It's tough, but an interesting little tid bit about Little Ann......
I was on my days off from the fire station when I went to a ranch to do some work on their radios (my old hobby-radio tech). I took my son David who is now a firefighter. The rancher had 2 Corgi's he brought from Africa and they had a litter of pups just 8 weeks earlier. As I worked on the radios I noticed one of the pups (Little Ann) had crawled into my sons lap and curled up. Well the rest is history. We took her home. The rest of the litter the very next morning had gotten into a bag of fertilizer and ate it and they all perished so Little Ann was the only surviver of the litter. In reality she had a life of almost 16 years she would have never had had we not taken her home. Some peace in it all I reckon. The very first night we took her home we made a bed for her in the laundry room. Just as we were going to bed that night I told her to go get in her bed. She got up walked down the hall to her bed and went to sleep. True story. Animals (pets) can be very amazing. ;)

Happy holidays to the Pet Stop and Gang

As a former moderator and member now I wanted to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday. While I rarely posted in here I lurked a lot and gained a lot of great info. Kudos to all.
On a sad note I lost me 15 y/o Corgi (Cardigan) Little Ann 2 days before Thanksgiving. She had been blind for over a year and had some what I/we thought were minor issues when she started having major seizures and you could tell it was so rough on her especially being blind. I was with her to the end and in my 33 year firefighting career and all the things I've seen that in it's own right was the worst thing I've ever experienced. It was also the hardest decision I've ever made, but couldn't see her suffer anymore out of my own selfishness to have her here.
On the positive side I still have my other little best friend "Shorty" my terrier mix and she'll keep me coming here to read.;) The other cool thing was I received a letter from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine consoling me in our loss, but also to advise me that my Vet and his clinic had made a sizable donation to UC Davis for research in Little Ann's name. I don't know how common this is and maybe they saw the devastation in me that day but hey it worked for me.:)
One thing I find amazing is the fact our companion animals (pets) love us unconditionally, something us humans haven't mastered yet and most likely never will. To Little Ann? God speed my best friend, I'll see you and pick you up at Rainbow bridge.:)
Kudos to your moderators and to Doug for all his kind wisdom. Have a great and safe holiday's....

RE: A Happy and Safe Holidays to All!

Dianne, it's been sunny and near 70 the past few days and supposed to continue thru Christmas! Nights have been a bit chilly around 40. The boys are coming with one son's RV and bringing his smoker and we'll be smoking a turkey and ham with a Christmas Eve campfire! A white Christmas would be cool, but one on the beach is about 2nd best ;)

A Happy and Safe Holidays to All!

Mornin everyone. Well the last part of the year has been a busy one for Mr. firedude and haven't had much time on the forum do I thought I'd better take a moment to wish everyone a great holidays season. My apologies for not getting back to some of you on PM's and will try to get caught up today.
The last few months I've dealt with a compressed disc in my back which has mended for now thank goodness and also have been dealing with my 82 y/o dad and his failing health. I also lost my best friend of 15 years my corgi "Little Ann" 2 days before Thanksgiving so life's adventures have had mer busy. In answer to a few yes the firedude is still full-timing with no end in sight at this time. I've sure missed the forum and everyone however other things took precedence. Looks like things have settled down for me a bit and the outlook for 2010 is a bright one...so far lol :B Looks like we'll have all 3 boys and their families together for Christmas and will spend it in a campground! I think they are even bringing my dad! At 82 it will be his first RV camping experience.:E:B Nothing like spending Christmas Eve around a warm campfire. Grandkids think that's cool lol.
Anyway I just wanted to wish everyone a great holiday season. Now to try and catch up on posts which in itself may take until 2010 :B

Surprise visit

a few days ago my good friend Tioga George showed up and we spent half the day visiting. It was nice to get caught up on our latest happenings together. We also hadRamblin' Ralph join us. Poor George caught the flu while here, but seems to be better. It as always was great to see him and hear of his latest adventures. He is slowly working his way to mexico for the winter. Below is a pic Ralph took of George and I.....

RE: Definition of a "Full Time RVer"

It's realty simple. There are a dozens deflections of full-timer. Simply go down the list and pick the one that suits you best. The rest won't count. Whacky as far as Mr. Webster goes? He doesn't rule anymore ;-)

RE: Someone is missing

Dianne make sure they also give you my bonuses. I've also asked management to transfer my remaining retirement benefits to you!:B
Folks Elvis has not left the building.;) Firedude is fine and still here and will continue posting. After many years and with new grandkids and other issues it was time to step down and turn in my badge, mod badge that is. It was a great run. Besides I need to pop in now and then to stir the pot to keep Dianne on her toes.:B Moderating here was a blast and don't regret a minute of it.
By the way I finally got my Budget Worksheet hosted thanks to Rodger so those who would like it see the sticky at the top and you no longer have to PM me and get it emailed.
As a mod here for years all I can say is you all have been a great bunch and it's been such a pleasure. Sometimes it can be a very thankless position and to do it has to be something you would definitely want to do. I'd also like to say you have a great bunch of mods here on RV.net and should be very grateful as they all truly care. About the best bunch you could ever hope for. Now based on that please don't turn this into a mod bashing thread or I may have to request my powers back.;):B
Anyway Firedude is alive and well and will be visiting frequently.;)

RE: What is the definition of a Recreation Vehicle??

As garym114 stated in his post "Temporary" living quarters. In all aspects, an RV is just that. A "Temporary" Living Quarters. And that "Temporary" living quarters designation is something Full-time RV'ers might have trouble with in the next year or so.
I haven't had any trouble the last 7 years and don't expect any anytime soon. I have a permanent street address all legal and my place of residence. No laws against travel should I elect to do so. Full-timers have been around since the covered wagon and expect they'll be around a few more years. ;) My Rv is not a temporary living quarters, it's permanent. I defy anyone to prove me otherwise lol.

RE: Full Timing and Inflation

Actually Barb I'm not sure you totally understand the Canadian health system, I have several close friends and one relative who are Canadians. First off they have health insurance just like we do and for those who can't afford it or whatever yest the health system takes care of them HOWEVER you move way down on the totem pole many times and those with insurance are taken care of first. Hopefully in those cases they get things taken care of before you die. THAT was exactly what we were worried about with our family member. She darn near died before her "number" came up on the totem pole. We almost brought her here as she was running out of time so to speak, but it finally worked out. They do have a good system for the most part, but it like anything else has some major drawbacks. I have family that has experienced this many times and it was not elective type treatment. It was a necessity. I'm afraid they would disagree with you.

RE: Hearing Aids

Since I wear them (digital)(thank you guns and sirens lol) the main thing I'd be concerned with is often you need to have them readjusted or worse yet a warranty issue and not being in country or close might be of concern. Had a friend in the states who bought a pair in Mexico and something went wrong with them and he couldn't get anyone to work on them. Mexico doe sell brands though that are internationally recognized and traded like here. Just be careful. Hearing aids are a very important part of a good quality life so just do all your research to include warranty, if they can be serviced in the states and other related issues.;)

RE: Full timing definition

A full time RVer is anyone who consideres herself a full timer. ;) No one elses' definitions matter.
There ya be. Best definition yet. Why would anyone worry if they meet the standards of another?? As long as you enjoy doing what you are doing the rest doesn't count. Call it what you may/wish. This forum is for everyone. No prerequisites.
