RE: Wet floor insulation

Unfortunately my plastic sheathing is stapled around the edges through some diamond plate, which can unstapled easy enough (I think). However it also appears to run between the main I-beams that run the length of the TH and some cross members (I can't really see them because they are underneath the black plastic sheathing). I guess I'll give it a try an see what happens. I thought I'd replace the fiberglass insulation with block foam from the home depot.
BLF13, did you get the vapour barrier tape from the home improvement store (home depot or equivalent). Thanks

Wet floor insulation

On my last outing I noticed water dripping our from the underside of my toyhauler in the location where the bathroom is (front bathroom unit). It water when the water hearer was first fired up. Upon a little inspection (it was a lot of inspection), I found that the hot water connection to the bathtub faucet was leaking and the leak was solved by tightening the connection. The problem I have is that the insulation underneath this area is now wet and I'd like to replace it. My problem is the underside is wrapped in plastic-like sheathing and I'm not sure how to remove and replace that material reliably. I thought about cutting it and then taping it closed again, but I'm not sure that's a reliable closure. The floor is solid and the area around the leak I found looks ok. Sure would appreciate some help.

RE: westlake tires?

I've got Maxxis 15" load range E tires on my Eclipse 25 AK. Have about 5kmiles in the last year on them and no issues at all. They've done nicely on a couple of 1000 mile runs we've made.

RE: Full Station Fuse Keeps Frying

Mine blew when batteries were down. Think voltage was down cause current to go up and burn the fuse. When batteries are up, I've had no issues.

camping at Ootillo Wels

Taking my family to Ocotillo Wells for the first time (today). What is the best family friendly area to camp. We have maps of the area. Is it best to go into the main entrance? Thanks

RE: Ladder Modification?

Steve76eb, I tried that. although its only about 600ft, its up a 15% grade with a 45 degree bend and cars parked on both sides of the street. More stress that turning around.

RE: Bolt for tie down is loose

I have similar situation but the tie down is directly above the fresh water tank. How do you get to the thing? Do I have to drop the water tank and pull insulation from the floor to get there? If there's an easier way I'd sure like to know.

RE: Water heater question

Well I took the WH apart, cleaned it and noticed that the spark igniter was bent out of the flow (kinked a bit actually). I carefully bent the igniter just to the flame tube's edge and presto, it works great. At least for now. I'mm off for a weekend of riding, we'll see if the good news continues.

Ladder Modification?

So I'm still new to this whole deal and a while back a wrote in explaining some difficulty I'd have turning my truck+TH around at my house (live on a cul de sac). So the good news is I can make it by jockying it around by making a 20 point turn and hoping for the best or by making a U-turn. The U-turn is way (and I mean way) easier...except that there is a ladder on the front of my TH and it runs into my drivers rear fender (and yes, now my fender has a ding). I have an Attitude 25AK and am considering cutting the ladder off just above the slant nose part of my TH (see my profile picture to see how the nose of my TH slants; the ladder follows the TH profile). By doing this I'd be rid of the part of the ladder that dinged the truck and life would be good wrt being able to turn around. I know some one is going to ask why not turn around right instead of left and thus avoid the ladder issue. You'll have to take my word for it that the turn right Uturn is at least more complicated if not impossible. My question is 1) has anyone ever done this and 2) will it destroy the ladder integrity? If the rest of the ladder will carry weight ok, I can use a small portable ladder to get on the roof. Thanks to all

RE: Attitude Owners

Unless you really want a bedroom, you might look at the 25AK. We needed room for the toys and it fits our needs. 15feet 11 inches to first cabinet, about 74 inches between the wells, weighs about 6200 empty with a GVWR of 11000lbs. If you want a fit a rhino with cage you have to remove lower bunk but you can still sleep 4 comfortably. You do end up sleeping with the kids but not a big deal for us. Just some food for thought.

I get about 12mpg pulling my Attitude loaded to about 9000lbs with my 08 Dodge 3500 between Los Angeles and Oregon. We stay right about 60 mph.

RE: Water heater question

Thanks. After all the reading it seems that I ought to take a shot at cleaning the out the flame tube and maybe change the anode (I believe I have one). The people that had problems most similar to mine were related to dirt near the combustion chamber. I let you know what happens.

Water heater question

I'm pretty new at this stuff and have a question about my water heater. It may need replacing but I'd like to understand the thing a little. Its a 6 gallon unit and has an electronic ignition. When I went to make some hot water this weekend, I noticed that the thing "puffed" itself out when trying to light. So I opened the door and asked my son to turn the WH on and it lit just fine. So I closed the door and after about 5 mins I noticed it was out and we had hot water. I went back outside and noticed the WH was trying to light itself again and the "puffing" (you could see the door on the WH push outward) was happening again. So I opened the door, waited 5 mins. and presto, it lit just fine and made hot water, but didn't want to turn itself off, so much so that the pressure relief valve on the WH started dripping. So we turned the thing off, got a quick (and I mean quick) shower and lived without hot water for a day. So, I guess my question is why would the WH light and stay lit with the door open and not closed. Should I replace the WH or try to get this one fixed (its a 5 year old TH with lots of use)? If I should replace, is one brand of WH better than the others? Thanks

Fresh water question

I recent bought a used TH and all is really working out well. Now we're thinking about trying to take our son out about once a month (so long as the grades stay up) and I was wondering how long I can leave fresh water in the tank without have to worry about a biology experiment in the fresh water tank. Its a major pain in the butt to get the TH up to my house (to fill water) so I'm thinking that I can load bikes down the street and take off minimizing the number of times I have to get up to the house for water. I guess a second question might be, is there somewhere I can get water other than my house. The plan is to use the water only to wash up a little, but bring drinking water whenever we go. Any and all thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

RE: TH Battery Replacement Opinions

I'll give a vote for deep cycle batteries from Costco. 6v in series or 12v in parallel, its your call and there are as many oinions on that topic as people you ask.

RE: Leaving dirtbike stored inside toy hauler

Stored ATVs in the TH. Took a while to get rid of the smell. I'll not do that again, but then again I've made garage space for the ATVs now. Other than smell, really had no issue so long as you periodically check in on the bike; look for leaks etc.

RE: tire upgrade

I just put Maxxis load range E on my Attitude 25AK a few months ago. Put about 2000 miles on them last month and I'm really happy with the tires. Trailer pulled great and trip was uneventful while we were on the road.
Also I have towmaster on my 16' enclosed trailer. Have maybe 5000 miles on them without issue.

RE: Waxing over decals??

I've used Meguiars cleaner wax on my used RV and waxed right over the decals, including the non-factory decals. Looks great and had no adverse effects on either factory or non-factory decals. Cleaner up the little imperfections and really made the decal color deepen.
