RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

I remember that episode... yea... not exactly what I meant. :)

RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

Looks like a little bit of flooding, but mostly due to a weak spark. It's new coil... we tried a second one... and a different set of wires. I think the rotor in the distributor needs to be cleaned. We'll see.

RE: Can't find noise in wall or duct

I second the post above. Sounds like a stove vent. I have more than one friend who stuffs towels when traveling. Mine vents directly outside, and will flap lightly with minimal breeze. Still enough to be annoying.

The carb was just rebuilt, but I figure its flooding from the bad choke spring.

Step 1 - Are you getting fuel? (Is the carburetor feeding the engine?) Step 2 - Are you getting spark? 1 - I can smell it. 2 - Haven't been able to check yet. I've been working inside time windows...

RE: Total Rebuild of a 1979 Dodge Class C

I may have missed it earlier......are you using the original holding tanks if in good shape? That is one thing I would change about my camper, grey is 32 gallons and with the family washing dishes and showering I have about 1 day till filled. One day I will drop the tank and put a 75-80 gallon tank in there Might want to work on their showing habits. :) One of the things I've kinda enjoyed with the camper is learning conservation. It's possible to to shower using only 1-2 gallons, and that's about all I use when doing dished for the day as well. Navy showers are a necessity. For dishes I'll heat a pot of water, and put some of it in the base of the sink was a bit of soap. I use that to wash, and the pot to rinse. When complete, I'll pour the pot over the clean dishes. I have a hose I attache to the sink with a shower type head I'll do a final quick rinse with. I'll do a days worth of dishes in just a couple gallons. With a family of four, that's under ten gallons a day. We can easily make it through a three day weekend. Sometimes two weekends when we're really frugal.

RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

arrrrrgh.... Well... over the weekend, I went to pick up the RV so I could do some more remodeling this spring before racing season starts. I also plan on replacing the shocks, and I need to fix the choke spring. It's currently out at a friends, and it gets very soupy at his place in the spring. So I went out early in the morning while everything was still frozen. I had been starting it about once a month, and letting it run for a bit. When I got there, she fired right up. I let it warm up a bit, then got it out of it's place. It had already sunk into the ground a bit. I got it semi stuck at one point, but was able to get it onto the frozen road. At that point I took one quick walk around to make sure everything was up, and nothing was dangling. I hopped into the driver seat, applied the seat belt, put it into drive... and it stalled. Hasn't fired since. I'm stumped for the time being.

RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

I don't think I'd chance it. I have no idea how it reacts to heat, and the doghouse gets VERY hot. Plus I doubt the stuff has much of a fire rating so I don't know how safe it would be. There's not a lot of space between the engine and cover. On mine, there are places where stuff rubs rights against the 1/2" of insulation from the JC Whitney kit. I wouldn't do/chance it personally.

RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

To try and answer a few questions... For the wheel wells. I made it up as I went there. A lot of Cutting a glueing. I used some 3M Spray adhesive stuff. For the Doghouse, I used the Insulation from JC Whitney mentioned above along with the adhesive that was recommended. It was a spray... might have been the 3M I mentioned above. I no longer remember. But it helped with temperature, and noise. I use the same insulation as the padding for the carpeting in the cab as well. (My feet had gotten rather warm at one point) I just realized I have no "after" pictures on my picture sight... only a few "in progress" of this particular upgrade.

RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

the source of the leak has been patched up so i'm guessing i'll just have to live with a soft roof! and the fridge is all good... just not getting very cold. thanks eyeteeth! I still say check the airflow first. :) Also... another though, use an air compressor to blow dust, dirt out of the cooling fins.

RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

I have a '77 Broughman and am looking to replace the carpet in the cab. Anybody recommend a good place to find a replacement molded carpet? Will a '78 fit properly? Or will I end up fabricating it myself? Thanks in advance. I just made my own for $25 worth of scrap from a carpeting place. Talk to 'em nice, and you might even get it free. Doesn't take much. Trying to find pre-fab was hard, and expensive... and I'm cheap.

RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

It can take a fridge overnight to really get cold. The tubes on the back should be warm/hot to the touch after about 45 minutes. If it's not getting cold, make sure nothing is blocking the top vent, and that air can move freely behind the fridge. If that area is entirely clear, and your tubes are warming up but the fridge isn't getting cold, then you have a problem. Also, sometimes the fridge will work on electric but not LP or vice versa. Try both before you give up on it entirely. (Although for me, LP is a necessity.) Is the water damaged area 'soggy' or 'soft'? Did it get damp? When looking for the source of the leak, keep in mind that area is just where the water ended up, it could be entering somewhere not directly over the spot, and running to that area.

RE: Total Rebuild of a 1979 Dodge Class C

thats about the way mine looks... i wonder if some places wont fill them if they have a little "age" on them...? I was turned away from a hardware store that filled tanks. He mentioned it looked exactly like all the "before' portions of the safety videos. An actual LP place didn't have a problem and laughed about it.

RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

Adam... can't give up so quickly. There can be a learning curve, but it's not hard, and oh so worth it once you can start making use of the old RV. I have a hard time working on mine anymore because if it's even remotely warm, we're in it. Heck just last weekend, in the freezing cold and snow...

RE: Pixs of inside Class C

My unit is 24 feet, bunk model, and I am VERY pleased with our floor plan. About the only thing I would change would be to add a few feet in length so I could get a little fold up table between the chairs. But that's just a luxury thought, its perfect for us as is. One of the things we really like, is with the exception of a small area where the kitchen counter/sink come in, you can fit two people so you aren't constantly moving out of someone's way when going from front to back. It doesn't have that 'hallway' effect many RV's have. Lot's of floor space for the kids to play on rainy or cold days. Towards the back - bathroom/bunk area.
