RE: COE

They build most Army and Air Force facilities, and sometimes for the other services. The build for other agencies sometimes, such as NOAA. They still build dams and levees, although not so many anymore. They are a big part of rebuilding Iraq and Afghanistan. They provide engineering support for deployed troops through their FEST (Forward Engineer Support Teams). They usually do the contracting support for FEMA. Of course, most folks know about their Regulatory folks who issue environmental permits.

RE: Wrecks Due to Being Overweight?

I bet this one had something to do with weight.

RE: New SAE tow testing standards explained

I think any standards are good. It isn't the end-all be-all, but it is better than what we have now. You know that the vehicle can do everything the rating says it can when brand new. Sure it may not be able to do the grades in Seattle, but then you would know that you should probably keep some safety factor if you live there. The next step that would be cool would be to publish the performance at the max rating. IE, how long to stop when loaded to rating without trailer brakes, etc.

RE: How to change brake fluid myself

Walmart sells a good synthetic, prestone I think. Worth the extra few bucks in my opinion.

RE: Using genset to power S&B in power outage

I installed one of these myself. Economical and simple. Match the size to your generator. If it is beyond your understanding then hire someone to do it. Electricity can be very dangerous. Merry Christmas!

RE: Old Skool Cummins Discussion

I have a 98 with the 12V and NV4500 manual transmission. Rear end is the 3.55, I think. Turning about 2k RPM at 65 with LT24575R16 tires. This is a really good site, with lots of info on the earlier dodges.

RE: I can't take it anymore....Geeze Whiz!

you dream of coming to Florida, we dream of going back to Alaska. :) Come on up! It is a balmy 7 degrees F outside right now! And I live in one of the warmer areas.

RE: 2004 F250 6.0 Diesel hard starting when cold

I think you have a glow plug issue. I am pretty sure it is just a continuity check to test them. I am sure someone here will correct me if I am incorrect.

RE: CAT 3126E block heater kicking breaker

Can you just follow the cord? You should probably inspect the whole cord anyway.

RE: Get rid of the tips!

I use Rirefox with Adblock Plus and ALL advertisements AND the Tips, which I assume are ads, are blocked from showing. I really don't know what all the fuss is all about. Thanks for the tip - that is a great ad on.

RE: "Half Ton Towable"-They Are Serious?

My boss has a 98 "little" F250. It has seven lugs and an air suspension.

RE: Personal safety while boondocking

Thanks for the answer. True about the wolf attacks being zero(source, Lakota Wolf Preserve) Should I decide to carry, I would prefer the shotgun myself. I thought it would be less of a hassle carrying something that cant be concealed. These wolves seem pretty bold to me. Wolf clicky. I take firearms wherever I can legally. It isn't because I am paranoid, it is because I am prudent. I wear my seatbelt even though most drive without getting in an accident, too.

RE: Unusual Things People Camp With

I've seen pot bellied pigs, ferret, parrots, tortouse....even a couple with 7 dogs in a popup...sleeping arrangements? If that was in Arizona, I think it was my sister. :B She fosters dogs and usually has between 4-12 dogs. Takes them camping with the family in their popup.

RE: Studded tire question (not an rv question)

Oh.. and I forgot to say that you are right about driving on icy roads... No one brand name or type of tire is any better than another when driving on ice.. And what a lot of people do not understand is that even with "Studs" or "Chains" on your tires... they don't help at all when trying to stop a vehicle on ice.. Studs and chains are strictly for achieving traction when accelerating .... but they become a metal "SLED" when the brakes are applied.. Same with 4wd vehicles... too many folks think they can drive the speed limit on snow and ice covered roads simply because they have a 4wd vehicle.. and every year, thousands of 4wd owners find out the hard way that the only thing a 4wd is good for is getting traction when accelerating .... ... but is not worth a tinker's damn when they hit the brakes on an icy surface.. :) John Studs do help you to stop on ice. Check out this study.

RE: Very Upset

I've dropped my subscription renewal.Hate the junk mail and endless e-mails. Anytime I get junk mail with a postage paid return envelope, I just send it right on back to them in ripped up pieces. I figure I am helping the post office out while showing them I don't want their junk mail. Works great for credit card companies, too.

RE: oil filter wont budge

I had one once that I had to drive a screwdriver through to free it up. That worked!! Been there, done that. Also a really big set of channel lock pliers will work.
