RE: New to Snowbirding... looking for recommendations

Try this park. Have stayed here many times. www.bonitalake.com They offer some good snowbird specials, free WIFI amd unlike all of the other parks in South Florida, they pay for all electric. I had to miss going there last year due to surgery, but I'm going back this year for 6 months. I can't wait!! They are very dog friendly too!

RE: Campground near Fort Meyers Florida for Jan. and Feb

As for being more of a mobile home park than an RV park, the RV sites often show evidence of once having been a mobile home site (paint and markings on concrete pads, etc.)Yes, you are correct, it was once strictly a mobile home park. They now have rv sites also. The difference is that this park (and most sun community parks) are in the park model business. They offer a lot of good "deals" because they are looking to sell the mobile homes. Their main business is sales. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, only that there are other less conjested parks that are geared more for the rv population and not for those looking to purchase a park model.

RE: Campground near Fort Meyers Florida for Jan. and Feb

Yes, they do allow pets, but with very strict restrictions. They are a fairly nice park if you can handle the crazy traffic and the high winter rates. They seem to be more of a mobile home park than a rv park.

RE: Winter in Florida

You might like to look at Raintree RV Resort in North Fort Myers. Look at their website! It is a great place to stay and the people are so friendly. They do have activities if you wish to participate. Everything is just a few minutes away from the campground. We are returning for our second year since we loved it so much last year. Also we have met so many great friends in such a short time. I am familiar with this park. It is OK. I attempted to stay there a few years back with my very friendly 45lb dog. They have a 25lb limit. They also do not allow less than a three month reservation.
I saw a post for a park in Bonita Springs (Bonita Lake) that is very pet friendly, the rent is less and the park is in a less congested (traffic) area.

RE: Disappointed in RV'ers at Walmart.

I do not see the word CAMPING in that statement.
good point. I don't either. I would say that they have no problem (obviously) with anyone (including rv's) to park. You have to park in order to shop. And I would assume that if an rv shopper has a problem with their RV, they would allow you to stay for a longer period of time. However, you are correct in that the word CAMPING is not in walmarts statement. As another stated on this forum, if it is abbused, it will be gone for those that really need it.
Good point wttsc, they don't want CAMPING.

RE: Campsite Pet Peeves

If you travel to a campground and spend your time developing a list of things that make you unhappy about being there, then you just ought to stay home.

RE: Campsite Pet Peeves

Is it the weather, the economy? How come such a bunch of grouches? Camping is supposed to be a fun activity. 99% of these complaints are so petty and insignificant. Smile folks, life is way too short. Be happy that you are waking up in the morning. Some are dealing with health problems, pain and heartache; and you complain of dogs, bbq pits, and poor wifi????? Holy smokes. :R

RE: Hard to find a quality RV Park

sounds to me like the OP isn't going to be happy anywhere. Perhaps they should buy one of those $500,000- $1,000,000 lots on the ocean with valet service.
I kind of agree with this, but I also agree with the one who started this discussion. I think the rv lifestyle is going down hill fast. The nice parks are few and far between. I can't imagine trying to find a decent campground on a regular basis. The majority give me the creeps, with old mobile homes.
During the summer I will search out campgrounds in the midwest for short stays. Decent ones are becoming very hard to find. I will usually stick with koa's because I feel they are a step above, and walmart for overnight.
During the winter, I stay at a wonderful park in Florida, but visit with friends at other parks in the area. Most of the winter parks in Fort Meyers are nasty. The only ones that are clean and nice are the ones where you purchase the lot (which I can not afford). I guess the economy is affecting the rv situation. I'm glad I do not fulltime at this time. I would feel very insecure. I know that when traveling I can't rely on walmarts always being available. Is the rv lifestyle gonna continue the downward spiral?
Just my rambling opinion.

RE: Homeless Housing/Camping

after a week we were leaving and went to town and bought tee shirts underware and pants for the boy plus a few toys.
What a very nice thing to do. Too bad more people don't think like you.
Why is a lifestyle choice that is completely off the grid a cause for sadness? Why does living in a tent or under a bridge for that matter constitute homelessness?
It's called compassion, which judging by your post, you can use more of.

RE: Warning: KOA Duluth-Cloquet MN

That's too bad that you had such a bad experience. However, if you go to
rv reviews.com, the reviews are all quite impressive. They said WIfi worked great, the train noise was not noticeable, the sights are large and level. Are you sure that you were at this park?

RE: ft myers campgrounds

Uh, when did Fort Myers ever have a beach?
I guess I was thinking along the lines of being close to beaches. Ft Myers, Ft Myers Beach, Naples. Bonita Springs, Estero. They are all close to the beaches. My point was that the traffic in Bonita Springs is not near what it is in Ft Myers or Ft Myers Beach.
By the way, Bonita Springs Beach was voted 7th in the country for the healthiest beach by CNN. It was also the only beach in florida to make the top ten.

RE: ft myers campgrounds

We stay at Raintree RV Resort in North Fort Myers and love it there. Very friendly people and everyone makes you feel like you are at home. Check out their website. Roomy spaces with concrete pads & patio's plus parking pad. Lots of palm trees and paved streets. They have lots of activities if you like that sort of things. North Ft Myers is not far from Ft Myers or the beach.
Their web site is old and they don't have any rates listed. Do you know approx what their winter snow bird rates are?
Another poster mentioned Bonita Springs. One of my favorites is bonita lake resort. The traffic is not as horendous as the FT Myers area. The beach is actually better. They have special rates for snow birds staying the whole winter.

RE: Stipends for volunteers

No flaming please but with the way things are going does it not seem to be a time for at least enough for gas to and from host location. I see lots of places for hosting and maybe they are not being filled.
I guess I don't understand the question.

RE: What is a "professional" camper?

I think it's just someone who has a job (profession or not) who live in a campground. Unfortunately, if they don't like the weekend campers, they're in the wrong place.

RE: Stipends for volunteers

bluegypsy but are you not working for pay I was talking about volunteer work
Hmmm, what does this mean? If they are working, getting a site, getting a stipend, getting fuel, getting propane, paid dump fee.
Why do you say they are not working for pay? Isn't the pay all of the above? I believe they call this "working for site" ?
