North side of Lake Superior

Several years ago a neighbor, who we have since lost contact with, told me about the north side of Lake Superior. He said it was really beautiful, not to busy or crowded, road was good, and a great place to visit. DW and I are thinking of being in MN, WI and UP of MI next summer and would like some info on that area. Would appreciate any tips, links, or other info.
thanx in advance for any help.

RE: How well would workamping work for a teacher?

Don't overlook non-RV kind of jobs. e.g. summer school in another district where you might like to visit in the summer. Camps that help kids catch up in the summer. Does your State have a Virtual School, my daughter taught at FL Virtual School for several years, she was not into camping and did it from home, but I am trying to convince my DW that might be an option to help her keep her mind occupied when we go FT next year. Google FL Virtual School for my info and to help you find out if your state has one or if you can do it a nearby State.

RE: Tethering new phone

I had a Samsung A707 until May with AT&T and used the tethering with it for about 6 months or so. I was pleased with it and @ $15/month did not try turning it off or on, but understood I could. I switched to Verizon because I was spending a lot of time in a section of FL that AT&T did not cover well and Verizon did. When I was in AT&T range it worked well and the connection was reliable and quick. Good luck with your setup.

RE: Earliest for Outer Banks w/o reservations

In June a few years back we stayed at the NP at Oregon Inlet without hookups and while we were concerned about lack of a/c since no hook-ups it was quite comfortable due to the ocean breeze. We were there nearly two weeks and only cranked up the generator a few times in middle of day to cool off RV. We are looking forward to a return trip in not too distant future.

RE: Should I drive my Class A over the Mackinac Bridge?

Dick B - thanx for the insight. Some years ago I was visiting family in FL but living in the UP near Margette. Decided to buy a Class C and drive it back. Got to the Big Mac about 10 PM in a howling blizzard (worst in xx years, etc.) Didn't know I had a choice so headed across. My sister and her new husband were with me and they wanted to get out but viz was so bad they didn't know where to go. I remember feeling the bridge swaying, but since viz was so poor could not look down. I went very slow which of course made the time longer (think eternity)! Obviously, we made it but I still remember it well. As I write this I remember it was the early Spring of 1977. My how time flies!

RE: Sliding mirrored doors.

One of my sliding doors recently came off the track at the bottom. When I checked it out, I found a loose screw on the metal tab that kept it on the track. I tightened it after getting it back on the track and have not had any problem with it since. I suspect you had a similar problem, something was loose or missing that held it on track,

RE: Water Leaks - how do you find them?

Thanx for your input. I did take it to an RV dealer with SealTec, but they do the pressurization with all the slides in, so I skipped it. Mine only leaks with the slide out. I may still take it back for the sealtec, but they were very cautionary about any success with slides out so I am leary of spending the money they indicated might not produce reliable results. I still appreciate your input.

Water Leaks - how do you find them?

We just went thru a 5 day siege of lots of rain and we have found two leaks. Neither is terrible, but one in particular has been very inconsistent for several years. The carpet on the floor at the rear of the back slide get wet. The floor is the RV floor, not the slide floor. I went through 4 days of heavier rain in May and nary a leak. This trip the first night out we get a fast moving quick light shower and it was wet. A week later when this past 5 day siege started it stayed wet. Two days no rain, including last night and it is WET this AM. Any suggestions (short of removing the slide) to track it down and/or prevent it would be appreciated. I noted after the 5 day siege a lot of people climbing around their RV so I am probably not the only one with leak problems, however!:h

RE: Working in the Key Largo Area

John Pennycamp State Park has RV spots and you may get some time there if you start now. But, between T-Day and Easter it is already full. Long Key St Prk is about 40 mi down the road and Curry Hammock (where we are right now)is about 15 miles further. But, same applies to all 4 state parks, they are long booked for dates between T-Day and Easter and max stay anytime is 14 consecutive days then you must leave for a day or change parks. We got some time last year because I happened to be online when somebody canx their Christmas reservations and I grabbed them. It is about 30 miles from the FL City/Homestead (minimum)and the road can be clogged especially on Fri evenings/Sat AM and Sun PM. Current in progress improvements will help, but will not eliminate this congestion. All that said, expect to pay a hefty price ($70+) for an RV spot in the Keys, especially in the winter. you can go to Fla-keys.com and find some links to RV Parks or you can do a search at Woodalls.com and get better info. It is a great place to be, I come down several times a year and during school do some substitute teaching to help pay the fun tab! Any specific questions let me know.

RE: CELL PHONE INTERNET ACCESS

I just got an LG Dare from Verizon and the Cradlepoint from 3G Store and it was amazingly simple to set up. I thought I had done something wrong! But, no it was just too simple. I switched from AT&T w Samusung A707 which worked OK and the rate was $15/month and could be turned off when not needed. the LG Dare set-up is much better and interfaces well with the Cradlepoint. Highly recommend it and 3G Store.

I wholeheartedly agree with great customer service. I called them about a problem with my out of warranty model and they were very helpful and helped me resolve the problem without having to send it in for repair.

RE: Hydrogen gas on diesel engine

I recently ran into a similar claim in South FL. I believe this is the old water injection that has been around for years. I remember seeing it advertised in Pop Mechanics/Science in the late 50's/60's. you inject water into the combustion and it vaporizes and increases the volume of the combustion process. However that additional moisture has some side effects on the engine and not much power. I think the hydrogen claims are just and update to current interest. IMHO!
