RE: RE-TITLE: NW TC Camp Trip, Skagit Valley Tulip Festival

Hi Jeff & Kelli,
Sounds like fun. Are you sure the Bay park is open then? Looks like it doesn't open until May.

RE: OK, now the ???? start...

Congrats on your TC. We traveled in our TC for 4-10 weeks at a time. The best tip I got from here years ago was to save and use 18 oz. plastic peanut butter jars. They are light and pack great. I am lucky, or not, that I use many pill bottles a month. They are great for spices and such. I also use square plastic tubs to put in cabinets. Keeps things from falling over and easy to take outside to cook with. Save small jars to use too. Somethings just don't go in plastic.
Enjoy,
Sue

Question aout futons

I have a question about futons. I'm thinking of putting a futon in the extra bedroom. Are they comfortable?? Would you want to sleep on it for a week?? How do you make it up?? Regular sheets?? How hard are they to get in & out of?? 99 per cent of the time it would be empty. It would save room in the bedroom that is also my computer room.
Thanks for any imput,
Sue

RE: Paying bills while on the road?

We are now ull timers. We get e-mail statements and pay bills online. I do have a list of bills that have to be paid every month with a spot to check it off every month. Just to make sure I don't forget one.

RE: It's official-we're full timing

Congrats - we are very jealous. Hope to do it sometime, sooner rather than later. Just returned from the beauty of MT. Where in MT are you looking? We spent 2 days down near Whitehall, then a couple on Flathead Lake, then another 3 or so in Glacier.
We are looking in a circle with Helena as the center, Great Falls to the north and Bozeman the East. Ok, I know, big circle. WHITEHALL is in there.

RE: It's official-we're full timing

Just curious, are you going to winter over in MT in a TC?
It depends how the winter goes. We do want to be with my brother & family in AZ for a week at Christmas. We don't like hot.

YEAH!!! We go on the road Friday

Our house sold. Our "Stuff" is going in storage and we are hitting the road. We will be looking for a house in MT. No hurry. We may get used to not paying high NY taxes and like it. We will be in Yankton, SD in Cottonwood Park next week. We plan on taking a rest there for a couple of weeks. See you on the road,

RE: Near Catastrophic HappiJac Failure

Same thing happened to me last time we loaded. Luckily it will stand on 3 legs. Inside what strips is a 1/4 inch thick square nut. Everything else looked good in ours. One, you can't buy the nut and 2 I didn't want to trust it after being apart. I bought 2 new one, now I have a spare.

Storage units-how safe & dry

We have sold our house and are moving west. We are thinking of storing our things in storage unit for 6 months or so. We want to get a unit in SD. If anyone has had an experience with this please PM me. What I want to know is what should I look out for? Am I better off to sell everything that might get damaged by dampness??
Thanks

RE: 1st big trip

http://www.freecampgrounds.com/ Well worth getting the book.
http://www.casinocamper.com/ are great. get used to using them at home-sometimes confusing. We just got home (July 8th) from a 70 day trip to MT & WY and spent just $170 on campgrounds. The 4th of July was our most expensive. If your can get your golden age/access or america the beautiful pass. When you pass a ranger station go in and get the camping guide and ask where the dispersed camping is.
Have fun & be safe,
Sue

RE: Camp Cooking Tips & Tricks

One thing I always do is sautee up peppers at home and freeze in little plastic wrap packets, put in zip-loc. I do it with onoins too. I also always have my own roasted garlic frozen. Saves a step while cooking and takes up very little space in freezer.
