RE: Foamy Gear Oil

Maybe the pump used to suck it out made it bubbly!?
I did a search on foamy differentials, and Dodge has this happen with their initial fill from the factory. I am assuming this is all it was, however I went 43K on it with about 20K in towing.

RE: Foamy Gear Oil

The guy never said anything about the vent, and to be over filled would have been from the factory. I just hope no damage is done to the gears. I will check the vent myself.

Foamy Gear Oil

I had my Differential oil changed todayin my 2005 Dodge 3500. The mechanic said the fluid didn't look bad but had some foam. The truck has 43K on it and this was the first time the oil was changed. What can cause this? We did not pull off the cover, just sucked out all the oil and added Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-90 Synthetic. I hope all is well.

RE: Disappointing, no 6.4 for the Ram

You can thank your tree hugging, politically correct, trying to make everyone happy politicians for messing with good engines and good rearends (smaller gearing). Its all about the fuel economy.
That's why I just don't understand why the manufacturers, either OEM or aftermarket, don't offer a two-speed rear end on LDTs. Rather than dump huge $$ into ATs with five, six, or more gears, and fuel delivery systems capable of monitoring to the nanoliter the volume of fuel injected, offer a two speed pumpkin to optimize performance and economy, regardless of whether you're running empty, or tugging 14k#. Something along the lines of a 3.08/4.10 would work nicely for most folks.
I would agree with you, however most of these guys wouldn't know how to engage them.

RE: Amsoil Gear Oil

From what i understand, all of their gear oils have LSD additive in them.
But i know one thing; the Amsoil SG is tough to beat but i have no experience with the other gear oils they carry.
Sorry but what is LSD Additive?

Amsoil Gear Oil

Does anyone know the difference between Amsoil Severe 75w-90 gear oil vs. their regular 75w-90 gear oil?

RE: Any reason to not consider a 2006 5.9 CTD Dodge MC 3500?

I have the late 2005 non MC. I have 43K onit and this truck you are looking at has very low milage. It really doesn't matter that much but it is a baby in the diesel life.

RE: 2005 Dodge Transmission & Rear End Question

I use the Amsoil product, it came with a cute little pump that was ultimately very effective :) I haven't had a lick of trouble, but really, how does one measure overall performance of gear oil? As long as it isn't fried or leaking I guess it is great :)
Maybe me changing to 37 inch tires will be a better test huh?
For sure that will test it.:)

RE: 2005 Dodge Transmission & Rear End Question

With the reusable gasket and ease of fluid change, I did mine every 15k per the manual. Just be sure you don't over tighten the cover bolts. It'll stretch the gasket and make it hard to reuse the next time. I used Mobil-1 75w-140.
When you use this oil, do you also put a differential modifier in the oil?
No friction modifier in the AAM limited slip axles in Dodge 2500 and 3500's. They don't use friction discs.
Just making sure, You are positive that the 2005 Dodge 3500 doesn't have them?

2005 Dodge Transmission & Rear End Question

I have a 2005 Dodge Cummins and it has the G-56 manual Transmission in it. I have two questions. I don’t tow that much, about 5000 miles/year most of it in July. I use the truck sparingly so I put a total of 10000/year on it. I currently have 43K and I wanted to know when to change the rear differential gear oil, and when to change the fluid in the manual transmission. If anyone has any recommendations please let me know.

RE: Wheel Bearing Question

I have Dexters. I repack one wheel a year if it needs it or not. Got to my fourth one last fall. That's 5 years and probably 100k miles. Grease wasn't bad, bearings were good.
Just curious, why would you only do one tire per year? If you are doing them anyway, why not do them all?

RE: JR Strong Arm Stabilizers

Ok...I'll jump to be the first to say I think it was a waste of money. I don't find the stability was increased enough to make it worth while. I find if I go out daily and readjust them, it seems to work better. I suppose it also may depend on your rig...Wouldn't put them on again. Just our opinion.
So you feel that it didn't help. Was the movement up and down or side to side? Also why do you think that tightening them helped? Didn't the bolt hold? I just want to get basically more detail from you. I am really considering them, however the cost seems high enough that I am questioning.
