RE: 2005 Taylor Coach new to us and renovating it

Update we slept in the trailer for first time in our driveway, the king size bed was great.... only one problem happened, our German Shepherd who tried to sleep on the couch at the end of the bed, fell off.... so next he got up on our bed and kept waking me up with all his movements so the next morning, hubby made another mod... he pull the couch out some and added 10 inches of foam so now Jesse can't fall off and then maybe we can get a full night sleep. So we will have to test again another night.
Also that day we installed a TV antenna and did all the wiring inside which works great. I have posted the photo in the long list of pictures above.

He not only listens,... he is downright good with his hands!! What a super job!! What's he gonna do now that all his jobs are done?? Can you lend him out?? :B
:B Yup I am always proud of everything he does, he is very capable

RE: 2005 Taylor Coach new to us and renovating it

Our van has the extra coolant and has been towing a heavier Coleman pop up trailer than this hard body. On top of that we have we have weight distribution system with sway bar for safety too.
This trailer doesn't seem to drop the back of our van down at all like the Coleman pop up did.
On top of that Taylor Coach is Ontario made and people with them are use to hearing comments in the parks (how can you tow that with that vehicle? or wow never seen a van towing a trailer that big). They are made so even a V6 car can tow them.

2005 Taylor Coach new to us and renovating it

Hi everyone... I know people like to see renovation photos so this will be long, enjoy.
We bought my sister-in-law's 2005 Nik Nak Taylor Coach in October and have been renovating the inside ever since. What I will not bother to show is all the plumbing work and electical work we did to make more storage and also we installed a new quiet pump and moved it's location.
Here are three photos taken today (it has been in our driveway now for a week) so you can see the outside - we also installed 3 new Maxxi Air II Vents on the roof this morning

Here is a new shot of the renovated sink area we installed an 18" round 8" deep sink and a cover for the stove
http://inlinethumb34.webshots.com/43169/2019281530102936486S500x500Q85.jpg
I found there wasn't enough counter space so my husband built me a removable extension counter that can be taken done in seconds when we need to eat. Here it is
http://inlinethumb15.webshots.com/44750/2477681820102936486S500x500Q85.jpg
I then ask if he could do something for me for all the cleaning supply bottles and also maybe a place we could hang rain coats if they are wet and towels to dry if it is raining outside and this is what he did for me on the inside bathroom door and bathroom wall.

http://inlinethumb57.webshots.com/34808/2690104570102936486S500x500Q85.jpg
I then asked him if he could do something under the sink to hold all my stuff for cooking and laddles and stuff, and this is what he did for me

http://inlinethumb07.webshots.com/45062/2576638480102936486S500x500Q85.jpg
Then I told him the closet was useless and if he could turn it into a pantry and this is what he did for me

Like a woman it never ends.... I then said, we need to turn the thermostate to digital and we need a multi DC plug in, and I needed cup holders mounted on the wall so we had a place to put drinks when we watch a movie, so this is what he did for me.
http://inlinethumb34.webshots.com/45473/2929578560102936486S500x500Q85.jpg
Then I said we needed a place to mount a TV for easy watching and a DVD player shelf and this is what he did.
http://inlinethumb41.webshots.com/18600/2667460570102936486S500x500Q85.jpg
Then I said sometimes I would love to listen to music so this is what he did:
http://inlinethumb30.webshots.com/44701/2999247260102936486S500x500Q85.jpg
Then I said what about all our fall camping we need a rug to keep our feet warm and this is what he installed:
http://inlinethumb63.webshots.com/45374/2890822280102936486S500x500Q85.jpg
Then last Saturday we were going to sleep in the trailer in our driveway for the first time - we watched a DVD inside the trailer first and that is when we realized we needed cupholders and also I told hubby I loved him so much I didn't want to sleep separately and asked him if he could figure a way to making the double bed to king size bed and this is what he did for me (best of all it takes under a minute to put the back of the dinnette seat on and have a place to eat)

Yesterday, November 28th we replaced the hitch jack from 1000 lb Atwood (which was bent and would not retract) with a 3000 lb Bull Dog.

I love this trailer as it now has everything I could ever want inside and it is light enough to tow with a Caravan!!! and fit into our driveway. We will be doing the roof with Eternabond (hopefully before snow arrives or next spring. Thank you so much my love, happily married since 1991 because hubby listens to me!

RE: Vents and light coming in

Thanks guys,
We painted the inside 2 coats of white, 2 coats of black then 2 coats of white and it worked like a charm, no light coming through (except through opening area side (which of course we expected. My husband at first thought just 2 coats of white would be enough.... but wasn't light was still coming through.

RE: Hitch on vehicle not right size

We spoke with The Hitch House and they know this Class III hitch is for the WD (which I am actually going to take with me on Tuesday). At the time of ordering they were told the kind of van, type of trailer and WB and sway and Dry weight and Gross weight. They were the ones that initially did the hitching and installed the WD on my sister-in-law's van for this trailer. They knew exacting what we were talking about on the phone which gave us some comfort and I heard from a friend that has used them 3 times on 3 different tow vehicles that give them high marks for service and knowledge.

RE: Hitch on vehicle not right size

Thanks all, I now have an appointment next Tuesday to get the Class 2 hitch replaced with a Class 3 hitch that will be able to tow 4000 lbs.
Yup we have Weight Distribution bars and also a sway bar.
Was amazing this morning, we towed the trailer with our Class 2 2" ball to our house and this hard body didn't lower the back end of our van like the old Coleman 10' Carmel pop up trailer. Nice change. (Only had to tow it down our street 1/4 of a mile.
Side Note front end will have all our bags of clothes and dog food bag on the bunk above the bed (weighs alot)(which is the large dinning table that is kept down full time) since we have a little dinning table across from couch.

Hitch on vehicle not right size

Bear with me, I am the female of the household that is in charge of finding answers to problems.
We just bought a used 2005 Taylor Coach (from family member), same as this one http://www.taylorcoach.com/Default.aspx?tabid=320 (but we did major renovations on the inside in last 4 weeks)
We have a 2004 Dodge Caravan with a Class 2 Hitch and we use to tow a 2003 Coleman Carmel pop up trailer that had a much heavier tongue weight than our new hard body.
The Taylor Coach came with a Weight Distributing hitch, our problem is when we went to move it tonight to our house we found out that where the WD goes into your vehicle hitch (where you normally slide in your ball attachment in the square hole), the WD needed a much bigger hole than we have.
Stupid question because I haven't been able to find the information online, do we need to get a new hitch put on our vehicle (and is that possible) or just a new mount (don't know if that is possible either).

Yes we plan to paint the inside (and not the outside) there were no black or smoke covers at the RV show or at the RV dealer he only stocks white.

RE: Vents and light coming in

Thank you, we hate being woken up at the crack of dawn (which will wake up my German Shepherd who will demand a walk), we want to sleep in and if we keep the trailer dark Jesse and us will actually sleep.... My husband is a cop on shift work so we are use to a very dark bedroom (looks like night time all day long) any kind of light wakes us up.

Vents and light coming in

Hi there, we bought a used 2005 Taylor Coach a month ago and have spent almost 4 weeks remodeling the inside which we have almost completed. We like a dark cave when we sleep so we installed inside on the windows blinds that keep all light out and also on the door but now all the light that gets in is from the vents. We want to be able to keep the vents open and fans running but we don't want a lot of light. We bought 3 Max Air II vent covers to install on the 3 vents and I have my doubts they will keep light out. Has anybody painted the inside of the Max Air II to prevent most of the light coming in?

RE: Wall mounting bracket

We are currently in the process of doing the same thing. We went out and bought a thick strong board, found the studs with the stud finder, attached the board on the studs, then attached the mount to that. This is what we bought http://www.monstercable.com/productdisplay.asp?pin=4480
This is a fabulous mount for RV trailers.

RE: Got the new TT home!! "Pics Just Added"

Wow what a nice upgrade... you went from tent straight a beautiful trailer, unlike us we went from tenting, to pop up, now we just got our first (used) 17'6" TT (that we are modifying in a huge way), maybe in another 10 years going to upgrade to something like what you got.
Congrats.

RE: keeping fridge cold while travelling

I have no problems sleeping inside with propaine on running stuff as there is a propaine detector.... it is traveling on the roadways and highways and the crazy drivers out there with possible accidents that has my husband (cop) and myself not wanting a possible explosion (fire scares both hubby and I because we have both seen the results of it first hand)

RE: keeping fridge cold while travelling

Traveling with propaine on is risky business, bad enough if you get into an accident but even worse if your propaine is open and a line breaks and and ignites. Check out this link if you travel with your propaine tanks open.

Thanks Ritablack that is a great suggestion about a bag of ice.

We don't use an expensive air compressor.... all we need and works perfectly is a bicycle pump (and it blows all the pipes out)

keeping fridge cold while travelling

Our Fridge/freezer in our Taylor Coach is 3 way (this trailer is new to us but used) and wonder if I can stock it before leaving on a camping trip and maintain the cold safely. We have concerns leaving propane on while travelling, wondering if battery can keep it cold and if we stop for lunch it will not drain our van's battery. Does anyone travel with food in their trailer?
