RE: Finding E-450 backup lamp wire

Westronics,
Yes, I forgot that the wire was accessable with the doghouse removed. I installed my monitor between the visors and so had the headliner, trim, etc down. It was easier for me to just lay underneath at the time. Either way, the hardest part is finding it! Sounds like a great system you have there!

RE: Finding E-450 backup lamp wire

Whiteline,
My camera has a power wire which is hooked up to accessory and a trip wire which is hooked up to the back-up switch on the trans. The camera can be turned on/off anytime you wish to view, but will automatically come on when you shift into reverse.
It isn't so bad connecting to the back-up wire once you know where it is, unless of course your in NY like me where it's been snowing and in the teens all week.

RE: Finding E-450 backup lamp wire

Westronics,
I went through the same thing a few months back installing my back-up camera in my 2005 Fourwinds with the 450 Chassis. The wire you are looking for is located in the back-up relay switch which is on the drivers side of the transmission. You will see a harness attached to the side of the transmission with a plug wrapped in tape. The back up relay isn't under the dash. I ran a wire through the firewall by the steering column and connected in this plug, being sure to seal it up again afterwards. It's a apin in the neck laying under there to do it, but it's only a few feet of wire. The only other way would be to run a wire all the way to the taillamps.

Battery Tender

I have most of my 2005 Four Winds 31' Class C winterized, but have a question about keeping the batteries charged. I may take a trip south this winter and don't want to remove the batteries. I also didn't want to leave the coach plugged in and even if I did, am I correct that the onboard converter/charger would only then charge the house battery? Am I right that a battery tender connected to the chassis battery would only charge that battery and not the house battery? Should I plan on getting two chargers..one for the chassis and one for the house? Thanks for your thoughts.

RE: Advice on "Do-It" Myself Install on Rearview Camera

I installed a Voyager monitor with a tilting camera on my Four Winds Class C. I wanted a professional install so ended up removing the trim and back panels inside my rear bedroom cabinets. This allowed me to see the hole I drilled would not be into a beam or someplace inaccessable. The camera has to be below the marker lights so they do not interfere with the night vision capability. With the cabinet apart, I was able to run the camera cable inside and connect to the long cable which I ran behind the cabinets, through the floor and along the frame to the firewall. I also used loom and wireties to install. The hardest part of all of this was putting the cabinet rear wall and trim back on and the nailholes filled like from the factory.
The monitor was installed over the mirror on the ceiling area of the cab cutout. This was a little difficult because Four Winds just used a fabric to span this space with no hard backing. I made a bracket which I installed to the frame around the windshielsd and then put the fabric back to hide it. The monitor has a rather large wiring harness that allows for three other cameras, triggers to turn them on, ground and hot wires, etc. All of this was also hidden up over the windshield under the fabric, with a big rubber grommet to allow the connector through to hook up the monitor. This grommet is hidden by the sunvisor.
Lastly, in order to hook up the back-up trigger (so the camera automatically comes on in reverse), I had to find the hot reverse wire. The closest reverse hot wire is on the nutral safety switch off the transmission. This was easier to me than running a wire all the way to the reverse lights in the rear.
Hope this helps.

RE: AARRGGG...stinkin branch!!

Just an update...I never did hear back from my email or call directly to Four Winds. I did contact my nearest dealer, Albany RV in Albany,NY. A woman in the parts department was very helpful. She emailed Four Winds parts and got a response..however, they showed the wrong size door. After speaking to her again and confirming the measurements, the parts woman said that they located the right door which will be shipped to me. Cost is about $160.00 and the hardware is not included. The holes will have to be drilled and hardware swapped. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it is the right one.

RE: Compartment door

I did contact the email address you gave earlier today. I haven't heard back yet. I also called the phone number on their web site and pressed the numbers to get to parts. I got a voicemail for a woman and I left a message of what I need as well as my phone number. I have not heard back on that yet either. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that something comes through.

RE: Compartment door

Thanks. I checked the site and found a few stock doors but not the right size. I'm still holding out hoping to get a factory replacement so things match. I'm open for ideas on how to find one.

RE: AARRGGG...stinkin branch!!

Thanks Westronics. I emailed Four Winds this afternoon as well as called the parts phone number. I got a femail voice that said parts and to leave a message. So far no contact from either means.

RE: AARRGGG...stinkin branch!!

Thank you Clydedoer. Would you happen to have the email address or the telephone number to parts dept.? When I've searched all I find is rv's for sale at dealers. I'm really disgusted at my stupidity for hitting it and get a pit in my stomach when I look at it.

Compartment door

I am not sure if I posted in the right forum. I just dented the side pass thru compartment door on my 2005 Four Winds 31P Class C motorhome. Can anyone tell me where I could purchase a new replacement? I have cared for this and it breaks my heart to see the dent!

AARRGGG...stinkin branch!!

I recently bought a 2005 Four Winds 31P Class C motorhome and have lovingly cleaned and added all sorts of accessories with the help of this forum. Yesterday, I turned the motorhome around in the drive, and while backing, came a little too close to an unseen stub of a brach. This morning I noticed a small dent in the side rear pass thru compartment door and the trim that surrounds it. (the door trim..not the frame attached to the motorhome). Does anyone know if or where a new door an be purchased? I would rather get new than hope for the best with a salvage yard. When I do a search, I get a lot of ads for four winds motorhomes. Thanks for your help.
