RE: What did you do to your Class C MH today???

Looked out the back window in a dream of warmer weather. Lots of snow still on ground so next trip is without the MH. Heading to Hawaii in two weeks. However, it feels like cheating on her when we leave her behind! Big trip and big dreams for the summer months....(Dreaming) Have to get the MH in for repairs of a mega chug hole on I-70 in Indiana in December!
What Island you going to? We spent 3 weeks @ North Shore, Oahu Hawaii last year spread out over two trips. I want to go back this year but a family reunion and two big fishing trips may cancel out Hawaii this year.

RE: What did you do to your Class C MH today???

Took the MH out to a Lacrosse pre-season tournament for the oldest kid. The games started at 8am and finished at 5pm. Alot of down time between games. I purchased a 1000 watt inverter from Lowe's and hooked it up two my two coach batteries. We watched movies and kid's played Xbox during the down time between games. Then washed her up on Sunday and put her away for 5 more weeks. Next trip is in April...a 4 day fishing trip to Banks Lake.

RE: Cabover condensation?

It can get pretty "gamey" inside a camper with 3 or 4 guys, cooking and minus 25 outside. (VBG) Hunting accidents aren't always unplanned if no one has showered for 10 days and someone has digestive issues. (VBG)
Norm
Norm, I've never laughed so hard in the morning as reading your post today! Soooooo true! I was once in a mountain cabin with 8 guys hunting in Montana with no hot water (just fresh cold spring water that ran inside a plastic pipe direct from the source) and after about a week, yeah, we all had just about had it with each others smells! LOL!VBG this morning. Thanks!

RE: Winter Storage How Long Until Your First Trip in 2010?

Going out Friday. Of course, that's just a trip around town with some school band members. I use my MH as a bus sometimes - what with 9 seatbelts in total, tons of room for instruments, and weight capacity to spare.
I also keep it at home with a space heater set to 40 degrees, so I don't winterize it.
That's the beauty of the Pacific Northwest....no need to winterize unless you live in Eastern WA or above 1000 feet. :)

RE: Winter Storage How Long Until Your First Trip in 2010?

I probably don't count in this thread since we use ours year around, but the next trip is skiing for a weekend during mid-winter break (kids school) and then April fishing trip to Banks Lake, WA.

RE: RV Newb needs cabover loft rebuilding advice

The reason I bought a 4' x 8' piece of good plywood to start with is that the material was:
1. cheap and available
2. workable with the skills and materials I could buy
3. last longer than I
If I were to 'cover' the Window opening with aluminum OR... filon, I would make sure I backed it up with adequate support which might only be a layer of 1/4 or 5/16" material BEFORE the final exterior layer.
I think we just need to make sure nothing breaks thru, nothing flexes too much and nothing ever. ever, allows water inside ...did I say...EVER?....allows water inside.
If only these manufacturers looked after us as friends..
You Know,, like we do here...............sigh.
Quoted for truth, Ron!

RE: RV Newb needs cabover loft rebuilding advice

This is where I got most of my information:
Memory Road's cabover rebuild
And here is my experience as I documented it:
Ripsnort's cabover rebuild
Our cabover rebuilds were done using the existing filon (fiberglass) so I can't speak for the aluminum.
Memoryroads used a piece of plywood to cover the hole left by the window, with awlgrip paint over it (boat paint) and I ordered a new piece of filon to cover the hole (my old filon was just too far gone on the edges to salvage)

RE: Storing my class C...should I use jacks?

I do this on my boat trailer, but it sits for a good solid 6 months. I like to get the rubber up off the concrete floor.
I don't see any benefit of doing for short period of times.

RE: How to polish up a "dull" Class C

Why not use a marine application polymer wax and cleaner? Klasse AIO is the german stuff that works wonders. I've used it on everything ffrom BMW's to boats. Works great on gel coats and clear coats. Lasts about 6 month if your RV is not covered.

RE: Front Window Replacement & Removal

Thanks John,
Yea, I've been looking at his site and his rebuild job. He did an excellent job. Still debating and thinking this is the route I really need to go here. Need to do some research and find where I can get a new panel for the outside. Mine is fiberglass.
I see you are in the KCMO area. As you know, we are in the dead of winter with extremely low temps right now. This spring when it warms up, I'm tackling this and if I can find a place to purchase the skin I might tear into it.
Thanks for the info,
Snagel
SO, my mentor, memoryroads, did not purchase a new piece of filon (fiberglass). He covered the window hole with a nicely cut piece of 1/4" plywood, sealed with West system epoxy, painted with Awlgrip (boat paint) Check out his blog on his window lead and repair to the cabover. You might get some ideas.

RE: Upgrading the battery system thoughts?

I added a 2nd coach battery recently in our basement. I vented the basement and bought a vented battery box. This is OUTSIDE of the living area of the coach.
I permanently hooked up a battery tender plugin to it and ran it in parallel with the other coach battery which is under the hood (the 3rd battery is the chassis battery)
This gives me roughly 230 amp hours total now should we ever dry camp. Last week while ski camping at Crystal Mountain, all 40 of the hook ups were taken, and we were forced to battery and generator for 3 days. That's when I discovered that 1 battery is really not sufficient! I field tested this after the mod, and I ran the furnace and fan at 75 deg, and two lights, for 12 hours. The volts on the batteries after 12 hours was still over 13 and "green". :)

RE: Post Pics Of Your RV Storage Method

My brother/sister in law have pretty much the ultimate. They actually remodeled to so they had a garage bay (as part of the house) big enough to hold a Bigfoot 29G. There is even room to open up the Bigfoot's big "garage" bin door so they can load it. They still kept two regular car bays. The architect did a fine job integrating the "blimp hangar" and it doesn't look obtrusive. There is actually a family room above it. They also have a "service access" to the house sewer line so they can dump the tanks. Water and electricity are available too. After their weekend ski trips they just roll it in and proceed to turn around the RV for the next weekend. It even gets a chance to dry out indoors.
Identical to what type of set up we have as well, except I have to move it to the septic area to dump, which is outside of the garage.

RE: Rebuild of Class C help

Yes I cant wait for him to get started on it again I guess its cold there too so I know how he feels Im waiting it out also.:hWell, it is more damp than cold here. 40 degrees and raining is colder than 20 degrees and snowing, IMO! I've lived in Minnesota too!
From my experiences, for any products to be 100% effective (sealants, liquid nails, contact cements etc)you really need 69 deg or warmer and humidity that is below 70%.
